Most of us have no idea what's going on. We don't know which way is up or down or left or right. We're floating through life like farts in the wind, hoping a kind and gentle breeze carries us along. We try to get anything and everything to take over the hassle of having to make choices - be it a magic 8 ball or some "sign from God". At the end of the day, no matter who or what we follow, we are 100% responsible for our choices and anything else that goes on within us.
