Actually, choosing to study marketing was something completely unexpected for me. It wasn't my dream at all. But when I got into college, this is what I was admitted to, and after four years of study, I graduated smoothly. I didn't have any big dreams, so it was a natural step for me to find a job related to sales. I once thought that if I loved a job, I would excel at it, but in reality, I had no real understanding of the industry. I tried many different industries, and in the first three months, I made some achievements. Yet, unexpectedly, I ended up quitting each time. I even had a superior once say to me, "You're doing so well, why are you quitting?" They even said that while others take ten years, you only need three years to achieve what they have. Those words of persuasion still echo in my mind, and sometimes I wonder why I didn't just push through and stick with it back then.
The female top salesperson I mentioned last night really inspired me to some extent, because she achieved great results, and those results were truly impressive. If only, if I had the mindset I have now when I first graduated, I think I could have stuck it out and achieved something too. But unfortunately, there’s no "if." So, I admire this female director a lot, and I’ve watched her video several times, comparing her achievements with mine—like the fact that she’s a few years older than me. That means I still have a chance to surpass her by the time I reach her age, haha! No matter what, I hope that day will come. Of course, I really like her—from her appearance to her personality, her way of talking, everything. My emotions are always written all over my face, haha!
Here’s a recap of some things the female top salesperson did while working in sales. For example, she said she used a wig to handle three difficult clients in their 50s who didn’t get along with each other. That’s a remarkable skill! Usually, most people would settle for getting one of them to do business with them, but she managed to get all three of them to agree to help her. No wonder she was the top salesperson! She also mentioned helping a client’s daughter with tutoring and getting tickets for another client. She was really thoughtful and attentive. This top salesperson said that to succeed in sales, you need to be an all-rounder, and I really agree with that. Customers aren’t fools—they know when you approach them, you’re trying to do business with them. "Treating them sincerely" may sound simple, but sometimes it works far better than any strategy. Over time, you can see people’s true nature.
As for upward management, or communication with the boss, the top salesperson didn’t use flattery or try to win the boss over. She didn’t even know when her boss's birthday was and didn’t attend their wedding. Once, she sent her boss a birthday greeting, and the host laughed. The top salesperson replied, "The boss is so rich, what’s the point of a gift?" That’s a fair point—after all, there might be someone in the company specifically hired to do that kind of thing, and they probably do it much more professionally, making the boss happier. Of course, she also said, "Don’t expect your boss to always be a wise ruler. Even the wisest boss can have moments of confusion. If you choose to remain silent, you have to accept the consequences." So, it's necessary to report to your boss: "Boss, this is how I handled this issue. What do you think?"
When it comes to managing employees, the female top salesperson-turned-CEO said that she spends 70% to 90% of her time managing subordinates. She said employees are the ones who create wealth for you and are also your customers. I completely agree with that. In the workplace, we often encounter situations where many superiors treat their subordinates like "servants." You frequently hear news stories about male bosses abusing their power to take advantage of female subordinates, for example. She also mentioned that she would fire long-time employees who had been with her for 10 or 20 years. "Maintaining long-term profitability for the company is a respect for everyone. The positive growth of the business is my moral responsibility." It may sound harsh, but perhaps the sense of crisis is what drives people to strive forward.
