Hello beer friends,
When you visit the city of Granada, in the south of Spain, everything comes together in one word which is ALHAMBRA.
Perhaps the best known Alhambra is the great complex of Nasrid gardens and palaces of Muslim Granada, which is a must-see if you are near this city or at least contemplate it from the various viewpoints in the Albaicin district.
The other Alhambra to enjoy in Granada is its beer, which has the same name as the spectacular monumental complex.
And as a good brewery, it has several types of beer, two of which I will introduce you to in this post.
Alhambra Special
Alhambra Especial is a classic German Lager Pilsner style beer, light, balanced and with a mild bitterness.
It is a bright golden beer with a creamy and consistent head.
In the mouth it has a mild bitterness but with a full-bodied and very balanced mouthfeel. The persistence is fine, slightly sweet with a dry finish.
It is ideal to accompany with a Salmorejo. Cold tomato soup, olive oil, garlic and bread.
Its front labelling reminds me of the Nasrid tiles that we can find in some of the palaces of the Alhambra.
And I love the phrase on the neck of the bottle indicating that it is made without haste. Quite a message for the consumer. Because when you drink a beer, you do it without haste.
Alhambra Red Reserve
Within the same Alhambra brewing group, another of the flagship beers is Alhambra Red Reserve.
This National Lager has a copper colour with reddish tones, and a marked aroma of toasted cereal.
It is a beer with a marked aroma of toasted cereal and wrapped in an elegant alcoholic note that adds intensity to this beer.
It has an alcohol content of 7.2% and after a couple of these beers while having dinner I started to notice that the alcohol was already going to my head.
It goes very well with meats and also with fish with an intense flavour such as salmon.
Undoubtedly, ideal beers to sit on one of the terraces at the foot of the Alhambra and enjoy the local culture and gastronomy.
