Sorry for not presenting murals the last few weeks, but the main reason is that I could not find murals that motivated me to write with passion and the necessary dedication.
However, last Thursday, while looking for a place to have dinner near the hotel where I was staying in the city of A Coruña (Spain) I found this beauty or work of art.
This mural is located at 3 Comandante Fontanes Street in A Coruña, and it belongs to the facade of a restaurant called Mardi Gras, where you can also enjoy a musical atmosphere based on jazz in the purest New Orleans style.
Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is the name of the carnival that is celebrated in New Orleans (Louisiana), Mobile (Alabama), Quebec, etc.. Its name is a French expression.
Mardi Gras is properly the parade that takes place on the last day of carnival and refers to the fact that it was the last day to enjoy both culinary and carnal pleasures before the time of abstinence that marks the beginning of Lent and Easter. As you can see, one of the protagonists of the mural is indulging in a cigar and a glass of liquor while contemplating the parades of his fellow living skeletons.
New Orleans as the cradle of jazz is represented in the splendid crocodile painted by the muralist Norete. Where you can see that the end of its body is actually a piano.
The other end of the mural is equally as spectacular as the side previously shown and in it you can see different characters or objects typical of New Orleans and Mardi Gras.
For example, in the central part of the mural there is a review of the group "The Wild Magnolias", a Mardi Gras Indian tribe with an extensive musical career from the 70's to the present.
At the same time, a cat appears lying on a legend that indicates "Lordi" that after searching the internet only find that several masks used in the Mardi Gras are shaped like a cat and by "Lordi" find the information of the heavy group of Finnish origin that perform in ghostly costumes being that the link found with the carnival.
In this same part of the mural, one of the main characters, due to the larger size than other components of the mural, is a woman who looks like a sorceress carrying a skull in her hand and a snake around her neck.
And in the background, behind her can be seen a large building with several necklaces hanging, which is also distinctive of this celebration, along with more musicians characterized as skeletons.
Finally, in the background you can see the Mississippi River with one of the traditional boats that ply its waters, which is one of the tourist attractions of this great city that is New Orleans.
Already inside the premises
Inside the restaurant, as I had indicated, the jazz atmosphere is unmistakable with a very musical setting with another large mural inside.
Additionally, references to crocodiles can be seen at the entrance.
And references to skulls reign in the rest of the decorations of the place.
Last but not least, the food at the restaurant is excellent and a culinary experience, musical art and urban art very well combined.
