Walk down Blue Gum Creek track for greenhood orchids : July 27 2026
Needed to top up some supplements. Have a good shop in Chatswood - makes a walk idea. Catch train to Roseville. Walk Blue Gum Creek walking track to look for orchids. Shop in Chatswood and train back
Two houses sold just below Roseville Station will be turned into apartments. They are on a slope with the creek below - one block below the highway. Will be quiet like ours is
High bridge crosses the creek. Property goes most of the way down. Old mill opposite side of creek
View back to Chatswood office blocks
Grevillea on the edge of the National Park
Orchid shade shed also on the edge of the National Park
Location shot
Greenhood rosette - a known spot
Found one nodding greenhood - had to be propped up for the shot. Pterostylis nutans
Hypericum flower
Track drops down to the creek and there is a long level section. Site of the Chatswood Rifle Range. Imagine that - a shooting range in a suburb. Long gone
A rainforest track with a lot of lantana encroaching. Not ideal for orchids
Stopped below this tree stump as there was a sulphur crested cockatoo working inside the hole. Flew off when another approached.
Was a good spot to stop as the orchids were below - cobra greenhood colony - on their last legs.
Twins. Pterostylis grandiflora - back one is in focus
Found another cluster of greenhood rosettes further along
Mini mushrooms close by
Brush turkeys been scratching at the orchids. Replanted a few - but they did confirm the ID of the previous rosette - pterostylis grandiflora. And now you can see what an orchid tuber looks like
Colony of acianthus orchids - one spike only with flower finished
More mini mushrooms
View back down the track of high blue gums. Not many of these remnants left
To the tops - maybe 40 metres up.
Walked up to do two shopping tasks in Chatswood. Standing at station waiting for train - got a small pain on the inside of my arm
Small pinprick bleeding quite a bit. Had done the leech check on the boots - pants tucked into socks stops them there. Must have picked one up on my hand taking photos. Normally I sense the wet feel as they walk up a limb. Not today. One plump leech has food for 6 weeks
Another big walking day. Cooked beef bourgignon for dinner - no photos. Stayed up late watching Commonwealth Games and a fee trades
