Dropped my wife at the station early. Gives a full day to explore somewhere different to walk. Blue sky days are good for the mountains. Looked at train times - an hour and 40 minutes to do a 38 minute drive.

alt

Went local train to walk a section of the Great North Walk walked once last year. Got one orchid in mind

alt

Berowra Valley NP - Great North Walk drops down to the river with a fork half way down - one north and one south

alt

Banksia time on the way down

alt

Five corners flowers going well and lots of them

alt

View opening up over the valley

alt

Banksia shoots opening up

alt

Stairs framing for these banksia. Did choose to walk this way around to avoid walking up these stairs

alt

A good day for NSW coral heath flowers - white form

alt

Pink form

alt

A few pea flowers open

alt

Lichen it

alt

A different heath flower

alt

Bonnet orchid leaves

Blue sky above while shooting from below

alt

Mini mushroom standing tall

alt

Hibbertia flower

alt

Sharp greenhood is first orchid of the day - pterostylis acuminata

alt

Matching rosette

alt

Seeded version of sharp greenhood

alt

Next sharp greenhood is sharp. Did find several colonies - some quite large - photos not in focus

alt

Mushroom show time

alt

First showing for mosquito orchid leaves. Only when editing the photos did I notice the flower spike with leaves and the distinctive V shaped of the labellum. It was the target for the walk - bunochilus longifolia - too bad I missed them. I do know where they are for next week

alt

Maybe 20 flowers open in this sharp greenhood cluster

alt

Front on shot against the light - the top of the helmet is in focus

alt

Tricky photo shot - middle of the three flowers is open

alt

Another front on target

alt

Fire trail markers. Next time I will walk in the way I went out - take a left to find the bunochilus longifolia. Then walk some more of the segment down to the river

alt

New helmet orchid find for the season - corybas aconitiflorus

alt

Side on shot shows the reason for its English name - spurred helmet orchid

alt

Twins

alt

Never seen so many helmet orchids open in one place - maybe 50 flowers inside half a square metre

alt

Third orchid for the day - small mosquito orchid - acianthus pusillis. Low light and small subject makes for tough photo work

alt

Spied this fungal form under a rock ledge - not seen anything like it

alt

Native violet on the last slice of the fire trail. For my granddaughter Violette

alt

A bit of suburban walking to get back to the station. Kookaburra posing

alt

Autumn colours against the blue sky. Tapped off a good walk - will do it more often but without the steep bit. Few orchids there - too bushy

Quiet afternoon doing investing stuff at home. Picked my wife up from the station and stopped at shops on the way home

Dinner was something new - gluten free chicken Schnitzel. New product worked well. Late night watching Giro
