Rainy day walk in Triplarina Reserve - West Nowra : February 14 2026
A rainy day start blessed by no noise from the apartment above. And as it was rainy the neighbours were not out early chatting. Go to use the car after my wife came back from coffee. Rain was looking bleak in the shadow of the mountains. Did the shopping first then drove the short distance to walk Triplarina Reserve coming in from a different access point
Cambewarra Mountain in the bleak
Going to be a muddy walk - headed doen this track and took a bike path going to the right. Was aiming for the fire trail that cuts across the bottom
Raindrop day - pea flower
Slender rice flower and rain drops. Was the most common flower for this walk. Was hoping that the grassy areas would yield midge orchids - no luck there.
Flowers of the slender rice flower open out a bit - easy to confuse with NSW coral heath flower
Found one yellow-anthered rock lily with raindrops
Lobelia with raindrops
Variable leafed goodenia close to the ground. Have learned from walking bike paths that new tracks carved out the bush are not good for orchids. True today. Learned today that they also wind and wind making for long zig zaggy walks.
Tricoryne - a bit out of focus
Last time I walked down this way it was wet - still is. Lichen are liking it.
Only evidence of orchids - seeded from last season or the one before
This view had me bothered. When I walked into the reserve there was a lean too - someone living rough. Have learned to steer clear of these places and to be alert. Looks like a body - was a huge teddy bear supine
Quite a different type of eucalyptus - green barked
A few wallabies around - this one posed but from 50 metres away
Fungal form behind the spider web
A bit of a corroboree site deep in the bush. Grass areas have been strimmed down. One solid road in. The wallabies like the short grass - they all hopped off
Did make the fire trail - it was muddy. Did the left turn as I thought it was the bottom of the rectangle I was walking. Was muddy and no sign of orchids
Roadway flooded. Was able to find a way across to the left. Was not keen to walk back the way I came especially as I had come out without a water bottle. Not drinking this brown stuff on a track horses walk.
Pine-leafed geebung about the spot I saw the houses. Was not on the track I thought - better - was close to the car
Got the steps in - got the shops done - did not rain much.
Cooked dinner for a friend and my wife - make it work as Valentine Day dinner
Sous vide duck and pistachio chicken and peri-peri chicken ready for BBQ and fry pan. Sorry there were no vege photos - baked potatoes, charred brocolini and asparagus
An important day in my story - 19 years since I landed in London as a refugee from apartheid South Africa.
