Need to get moving a bit earlier today as I have to cook lunch for friends - makes for a plan for a shorter ride to get to the middle of Seven Mile Beach - stopped on a small side track on the way
Not far from the bike park was this pink caladenia orchid. I thought I would find some here
There were a few each with small variations - dumpy fingers - all other features the same
Deeper pink - also dumpy fingers - all other features the same
Rode up to next track that goes down to the beach - lots of dyanella showing
Next up - some different colouring on this caladenia - purple tinges along the calli
First native violet is always photographed for my granddaughter Violette
And then back to unravelling the pink caladenia
Dumpy fingers - green column. What is noticeable once I point it out - petals have a fine layer of grey sand on them - thrown up from the track
Back to differences- deeper pink on the petals, a line of pink along the calli and an insect hanging onto the column
The shape of the lobes is different - they have a flare out and these flares are tinged pink
Maybe the photo of the day - good focus on a flower smaller than a US penny
Track ends at the beach - one person on the section northward to Gerroa
And deserted to the south toward Shoalhaven Heads
Leptospermum squarrosum right next to the beach
Pea flowers with eyes peering back. These were low to the ground and less affected by the wind
The Australian bluebell got a helper- that slither of grass held it firm for the photo. Flower is also tinier than a US penny - the depth gets in the way for good focus
A few more caladenia on the way back - dumpy fingers plain form in pink
Ants like the paper daisy - this one still get yellow bits
While are on bugs - this one sucking nectar from the caladenia
Photos a bit out of sequence - blunt-tipped greenhood - pterostylis curta near the beach in a known spot
Did pose for a selfie - wearing my 2014 GCC jersey earned in the first year of the GCC for raising more than $500 - done that plus every year since
An easy ride - just under 7 kms out - walk 2 kms to the beach and cycle back
Sure pleased I found orchids without forcing down the known sidetrack. And got back home in time to sous vide salmon for lunch. Our friends bought the prawns and salmon. My job was to sous vide salmon at home and seer at our friend's house to serve. My wife made a fab green salad to match.
We had a lovely lunch. I got yo walk the dog a few times
A big day
