The other day was the first day off of work at the restaurant. What a crazy weekend. We all felt there was a strange vibe. People were exceptionally difficult.
I work in a vegan restaurant which is super busy Friday and Saturday night. On those days we had difficult clients.
One person complained over the phone that she had an allergic reaction to eggs after eating our food. We assured her that everything was a hundred percent vegan.
Another person reminded us that she had a lactose allergy. One table came in with their own dessert which was not vegan. We had to tell them we couldn't let them have it in our restaurant.
We had full reservations, but several people came in during the rush and asked if they could switch their tables. They were upset that we couldn't accommodate.
People that booked reservations fifteen minutes before we close, didn't show up until after closing time. We didn't say anything. Two tables were late and one waited for friends who were half hour late. The staff had to wait, including us in the kitchen. We waited almost an hour before they ordered appetizers. They didn't seem to feel bad about being the only people left while the staff waited for them. They had drinks food and dessert.
They left two hours after the restaurant closed. They left twelve percent as a tip. Another person came in and had drinks and food by themselves. They left zero tip. Here we usually tip 15 to 20 percent.
This happens every weekend to a certain extent but the past weekend was over the top.
When we finally had a day off, I just wanted to relax like never before. I also was recovering from a fall at work on a slippery floor. I landed flat on my back and saved my head with my elbow. My elbow looked like a football and the pain was so crazy that I almost threw up. I forced myself to keep going but it was an exhausting ordeal.
I didn't feel like making a proper dinner on our first day off, after feeding all those spoiled ungrateful clients so I decided to get a bunch of snacks, make some dips and put it all on a tray. One for me and one for Marc. This is what we had for dinner. It was just what the doctor ordered.
Marc had his tray while he played video games and I had mine while I watched crappy but entertaining movies. It was four hours of grazing and watching movies.
I made a quick hummus with chickpeas, garlic lemon juice and tahini. Half of it was turned into sun dried tomato hummus with added pickled hot peppers on top. I also made a spicy cashew cream dip from cashew cream I had left over.
I threw in some olives and pickles along with some veggies for dipping. I also grabbed a vegan store bought cream cheese with chives and garlic.
I had bought a few different kinds of crackers which were good with the cream cheese. I never liked real cheese much when I ate dairy but I liked the odd flavored one later on in my years. This was quite the similar.
I chopped up some guava paste which I've never had before and put it on the cream cheese. This was a suggestion by our Mexican chef who says they eat it in Mexico. It was delicious.
I threw on some peanuts and berries which sealed the deal.
This looks like something you would share with several people but after four hours of snacking it was the perfect dinner.
I was quite surprised that Marc didn't want any more to eat afterwards.
This was the perfect way to wind down and relax. The next day I felt exceptionally good. I also had a decent sleep and wonder if all that chewing and slow eating was why. We usually eat late at night because of our schedule.
I recommend this kind of thing for a relaxing evening when you don't feel like cooking. Or if you have guests. Non vegans will also love it.
Thanks for stopping by!
