Wow - an age so dark, it has no potential to birth a hero. Generations of slavery turning the world grayscale and stripping even the genome of hope: we are born oppressed, and there is no spark of anything in any of us. That spark that makes you think about freedom. But even with all the oppression and loss of hope, one boy born into slavery knows the rules, the ways to make himself useful, and he asserts that the end is in sight (a light at the end of a tunnel?) - even without a hero, we arrived at the calm of this darkness. Interesting to consider that "It's easy to be a hero in times of turmoil, when life demands it." Not so easy to stay calm in the lingering darkness. What a provocative insight!
