We arrived!!! We landed in St Petersburg safe and sound. Leaving the airport to find our way to our hostel. After rightly deciding not to walk it, we got on a bus and were treated to our first encounter of the Russian hospitality....a silent emotionless man who took our money and returned the change. We will refer to this as the Russian smile from now on. We made it to the hostel and were greeted warmly, the following pictures are from day 1 walking around the city.
This is the Church of the Saviour on Blood, just breathtaking architecture.
We had some lovely vegan burgers which for the price, would beat fast food burgers any day of the week.
After leaving the restaurant, we see our second most entertaining car, the bin bag car.
This was only beaten by the car filled with rubbish bags which we had seen the night we arrived. Unfortunately, we have no picture of this alternative landmark.
To end the day we took our own little tour of the underground stations. This was spectacular, with so much soviet era art work on show. We had never seen anything quite like it.
So we decided to take an early night and continue to explore tomorrow. We hope to do a rooftop tour, so follow us for what should hopefully be some amazing pictures.
