For quite some time now i've said i'd share some images of the gear I use. I'm going to break it up with 3 different parts, Underwater Macro, Underwater Wide Angle and Surfing setups as they all have relatively different set ups.
Today i'm going to talk about my Underwater Macro set up and why I use this particular gear. I use a Aquatica 5DSR water housing for my Canon 5D Mark III. Built in Canada, these housings are underwater tanks, incredibly well made and unlike most housings on the market which are only rated to about 10m in depth the Aquatica range can do 10x that and go to depths of 100m and more. With a inbuilt moisture alarm which is extremely loud underwater is a great safety feature, just incase a hair or grain of sand releases drops of water in to the housing (thankfully this has never happened to me). This housing is equiped with a mini macro port for my Canon 100mm Macro to get in nice and tight rocks for little critters.
I use 2x INON z240 strobes, as you slowly begin to get deeper and deeper underwater the light penetrating the water decreases and you need light to photograph the subject. The INON range of strobes aren't the fastest are recycling and charing for the next frames but are extremely light and i'd rather that when travelling as i'm always paying for extra baggage. Along with lights I use a Weefine Smart Focus 2300, focus light this puts light on my subject before so my camera can focus, along with using it as my dive light when diving at night. The great thing about the Weefine Smart Focus is when I press the shutter the light quickly turns off so it doesn't interfere with the light the strobes are producing.
I use this Underwater Macro set up on all types of critters - Squid, Nudibranchs etc. (My last three Steem posts are used with this set up)
