I am a member of a couple little group communities online that are devoted to portrait &/or fashion &/or glamour photography. One in particular came up with the idea for the "Traveling Dress." The proposed idea was that the admin would select and purchase a glamorous dress, and then group members would apply to be a part of the project. 12 members were selected- one for each month of 2017. The Dress was shipped from one photographer to the next for a whole year. The idea was that each individual photographer would take The Dress and shoot it in their own style, and we would end up with a collection of beautiful images, a great discussion about photographic skill, technique, & style, and some fun experiences.
My favourite shot from the whole day. Look at that sass.
The Dress itself was a slinky, curve-hugging cut with a sexy low back, and completely covered in beautiful bronze-red sequins.
Everyone was respectful as The Dress was diligently cleaned and shipped on-time by each participant. We all signed a postcard that travelled with The Dress as well, documenting where it had been. It went all over the US, and, as the only Canadian selected, it came up here to me. I photographed it when I happened to be in my hometown of Kelowna, BC. I asked a dear friend of mine who is a very talented hairstlyist and makeup artist to help me out. She absolutely rocked the triple threat: hair, makeup, and modeling.
We were encouraged to get creative and shoot it however we wanted (without damaging it). I wanted to shoot it more like a fashion shoot, but still maintain a portrait element to it. I call it the "fashion portrait." I used natural light, as it was just lovely that day, and my trusty Canon 5D mII with the 24-70 f/2.8L.
When the group admin gets organized and all the photos are properly submitted, there will be a small publication printed to commemorate the successful project. I will post an update when that happens! For now, here are a couple shots from my Travelling Dress shoot with the amazingly talented and beautiful Kris. There are more to come!

A close shot of Kris' strong, stunning features. I just loved how the colour of her hair complimented the colour of the dress! And- I PROMISE you- those are her eyes, untouched by Photoshop. She's famous for them. I call the colour 'celery' hehe.
What do you think of this project? Do you think we could launch some similar projects on Steemit?
If you're interested in seeing what some of the other participants did with the Traveling Dress, you can check the hashtag #cloud9travelingdress on Instagram, and check beautiful Kris out HERE. She runs a gorgeous Green Circle Salon in Kelowna.
