WHY DO PEOPLE HIDE THEIR PAIN BEHIND LAUGHTER
Hello #Scifimultiverse friends, I trust your day is going well.
These days, we see a lot of fake lifestyles, which is also making it difficult for people to empathise with others, even when it is obvious that they are going through difficulties.

Recently, I watched a video on Instagram where an individual pretended to be crippled while trying to cross the road. Seeing the individual, the motorists stopped to let the person pass, only for the individual to get up halfway and start running across the road. I was not only pained, but I concluded that the behaviour could hinder those with real disabilities from getting the needed help when such a situation comes up. This may also be a reason why people hide their pain because others might not believe their story, owing to people like this faking disability when they are not challenged at all.
Again, I once went for an assessment; when I was done, I was seriously pressed, but I couldn’t approach anyone at the venue to request the convenience room. I wanted to look decent and well-cultured while I was hiding the pain of being pressed.
The thought of a first impression and what they would say behind my back after using their convenience room made me hold on. In that process, I became uncomfortable with any delay and request. At some point, one of the staff noticed that I wasn’t relaxed and comfortable again. The person approached me and asked if I needed support, but I smiled and waved it off, pretending that my attention was needed at the office. Meanwhile, I was just trying to hide my distress from the world and be myself to avoid gossip.

When I left the venue, I barged into a bank and used one of their conveniences, though I nearly messed up because I had held the discomfort for a long time; hence, my whole system was burning and rumbling with noise. This singular act would have injured my system because I want to avoid what people would say behind my back.
Apparently, I did that because I have heard our janitors discussing how the visitors who used our convenience left the place untidy and smelly after using it. Sometimes, I correct them; other times I ignore them. So, that fear of mockery and shame made me always avoid using the convenience rooms anyhow.
However, these days, I wake up to reality, knowing that no one but myself can stop me from being who I want to become. So I fear less and live a genuine life.
