Morgan Dollars are probably my favorite government coin to collect. I really like the design, and they have a rich history. Some of these coins were used as payment in the old US western days, stolen in bank or stagecoach robberies, etc.
Obverse
The obverse is your traditional Morgan design, featuring Liberty, with a cap on her head.
Reverse
The reverse on these is my favorite. The eagle seems to be more "active" since it's depicted spreading its wings. Other designs have it stationary and far less details in it.

The story behind these different hoards of Morgan dollars is always interesting. This came from the Olathe Hoard. According to the story, a banker in Olathe, Kansas was hoarding 25 US Mint bags of Morgan dollars. Each bag holds 1,000 of these, meaning he was hoarding 25,000 of them! (Source) Since many Morgan Dollars were melted down back when silver hit $50/ounce, this was a huge discovery!
I paid $98 for this coin, which seems to be about the going rate. These are a great piece of history at an affordable price. By comparison, the GSA Morgan I bought cost $350, since it was specifically produced by the US government with a special box and certificate. These are a much more affordable alternative and very fun to collect!
