In my end-of-season and resource harvest reports for lands, I always include a Gladius Cases opening session featuring these gladiator cards. My consistency with these cards isn't just for use in Brawls battles, but also for use in the modern ranking system through the "Are you not entertained?" ruleset, which allows us to summon a gladiator card onto the battlefield. It's worth noting that these cards have the Bloodlust ability, so if they start eliminating targets, their stats increase, making them cards that can turn around a game you seemed to be losing. Therefore, in this post, we'll look at the capabilities of these cards and how they can help us climb the ranks in the modern ranking system. Let's begin!

The first battle we'll look at is with a Water class card, Isgald Vorst, one of the most powerful Gladiator cards in the Water class. I generally use this card in very low mana battles, and in the next battle, I'll show you why it's so useful.

La primera batalla que veremos es con la clase agua, se trata de Isgald Vorst y es una de las cartas gladiadoras más potentes que tiene la clase agua. Por lo general uso esta carta en batallas de muy bajo mana y en la siguiente batalla te mostraré porqué es tan conveniente usar esta carta.

Let's start with the Archon we'll be using. Zeddica, and bi-elemental Archons in general, were the only bright spot in the unfortunate Rebellion set. Unfortunately, their purpose was overshadowed by the disaster of Tactical Archons and their poorly balanced modifiers. In this case, we'll use this Archon not so much because it's bi-elemental, but because of its low mana cost, which makes it an ideal card for dealing with these very low-mana battles in Modern.

Comencemos por el arconte que usaremos, Zeddica y en general los arcontes bi elementales fue el único acierto que tuvo la triste edición Rebellion, lamentablemente su propósito se desdibujo con todo el desastre de los arcontes tácticos y sus modificadores mal balanceados. En este caso usaremos a este arconte no tanto por ser bi elemental, sino por su bajo coste de mana que la hace una carta ideal para lidiar con estas batallas de muy bajo mana en moderno.

Halfling Refugee is an ideal mini-tank for these battles because even at level 1, it deals good damage and has a decent amount of health. Clearly, having Weary is a limitation of this card, but in these circumstances we are more interested in it acting as a containment tank than as an offensive card, so we can accept the risk of Weary.

Our third and final unit is Isgald Vorst. Several characteristics make this card ideal for this type of battle. First, its low mana cost makes it a very good option. Second, its stats, such as speed and health, are quite high, including 3 defense points, making it quite resistant to melee and ranged attacks. Finally, its opportunistic ability makes it the key piece for this battle because it will attack the weakest units, and if we're lucky and it manages to take down its target, it will activate its Bloodlust ability and boost all its stats.

Nuestra tercera y última unidad es Isgald Vorst, varias características hacen de esta carta ideal para usarla en este tipo de batalla. Okay, our lineup focused on only 2 cards, just like our opponent placed 2 cards in their lineup, the most dangerous being the legendary Venka the Vile and considering that their archon is level 4, we are clearly at a disadvantage but our ace up our sleeve will be the use of a gladiator card with the potential to increase its stats.

In the first round, our mini-tanks withstood the punishment, but they didn't survive the second. The difference here is that the kill our tank made boosted its stats, allowing it to withstand Venka's onslaught in the third round and deliver the final blow in the fourth. This is a small example of the great potential this card has to complement your lineup by taking advantage of the ruleset that allows you to use a Gladiator card. Let's look at the next battle.

The card we'll look at next is a gladiator that has gained significant prominence in the modern format, mainly because the Water class once again has an archon that boosts magic attacks. It's Flagulon Reine, and it's a card that has significantly enhanced my Water Splinter strategy. In the following battle, we'll see the great advantage this card provides.

La carta que veremos a continuación es una gladiadora que ha ganado un gran protagonismo en el formato moderno, principalmente porque la clase agua nuevamente vuelve a tener un arconte que potencia los ataques mágicos. Se trata de Flagulon Reine y es una carta que me ha ayudado a potenciar significativamente mi estrategia con el splinter de agua, en la siguiente batalla vamos a ver la gran ventaja que significa tener esta carta.

We now have a wide mana pool with the possibility of using Water, Earth, and Dragon Splinters, and the ruleset that allows us to use a gladiator card. Of course, our choice under these conditions is the archon Marlai Singariel. It's interesting how the format has undergone such a profound change simply with the addition of a card that's also free! This speaks volumes about the poor decisions Splinterlands made with the previous set (Rebellion). This archon, simply by boosting magic attacks by +1, has made the modern format with the Water Splinter truly fun.

We need a tank that can absorb massive amounts of damage because our opponent will clearly also take advantage of the high mana ceiling to use powerful units, which is why we'll use Ulundin Overseer. I've talked about this great card many times before; now that the Giant Killer ability has been removed from this format, this card can withstand high levels of damage and remain standing. Furthermore, it allows any melee unit in the second position to attack the enemy's front line.

Necesitamos un tanque que absorba enormes cantidades de daño porque claramente nuestro oponente también aprovechará la ventaja del gran techo de mana para usar unidades poderosas, por eso usaremos a Ulundin Overseer. In the second position, we'll use Blue Wyrm Travesty. This unit is from the Escalation miniset, and its main advantage is the introduction of common cards with significant stats, but the disadvantage of being very expensive in mana. However, in this case, we have a fairly high mana ceiling, so we'll use this card, which has excellent damage, defense, health, and speed, to attack from the second position.

En la segunda posición usaremos la carta Blue Wyrm Travesty, esta unidad es del mini set Escalation y su mayor ventaja es la introducción de estas cartas comunes con importantes estadísticas con la desventajas de ser muy costosas en mana. Pero en este caso tenemos un límite bastante amplio, por eso usaremos esta carta que tiene un excelente daño, defensa, vida y velocidad para atacar desde la segunda posición.

The third unit we'll place will be our first magic attack unit, Mindless Thrall. It's a neutral reward card that I still need more copies of to level up, but it already has the phase ability from level 1, allowing it to evade magic attacks. So it will be the most exposed unit on the front line, since if our tank is knocked down, this card can hopefully evade 1 or 2 attacks, provided we can reduce our opponent's attack speed.

La tercera unidad que ubicaremos, será nuestra primera unidad de ataque mágico, Mindless Thrall es una carta reward neutra que aún me faltan copias para llevarla al siguiente nivel pero ya desde el 1er nivel tiene la habilidad phase que le permite evadir los ataques mágicos, así que será la unidad más expuesta en la línea de combate ya que en el caso de que nuestro tanque sea derribado esta carta puede evadir con suerte 1 o 2 ataques siempre que podamos reducir la velocidad de ataque de nuestro oponente.

Next, we have our gladiator card, Flagulon Reine. This card has multiple advantages, starting with the fact that it's at level 2. It can damage adjacent units with its Blast ability, but it can also nullify enemy defenses with a single attack using its Shatter ability. And considering that it can boost its stats by activating its Bloodlust ability, we're talking about a strategic piece in our lineup.

Luego tenemos a nuestra carta gladiadora, Flagulon Reine, esta carta tiene múltiple ventajas empezando porque la tenemos en nivel 2, y le permite causar daño a las unidades adyacentes con su habilidad blast pero también puede anular las defensas enemigas con un solo ataque con su habilidad shatter y considerando que puede aumentar sus estadísticas si activa su habilidad bloodlust estamos hablando de una pieza estratégica en nuestra alineación.

Mystic Scaleweaver is a card with significant magic damage, but most importantly, it reduces the enemy's attack speed with its Slow ability. This is important because it not only gives us the initiative in combat, but also increases the chances of evading attacks on our Mindless Thrall unit, which can evade magical attacks.

Mystic Scaleweaver es una carta con importante daño mágico, pero lo más importante es que reduce la velocidad del enemigo con su habilidad slow. We complete our lineup with Warborn Shaman. I must emphasize the importance this card has acquired with Archon Marlai Singariel. This card is dual-elemental (Water/Death), making it very useful with the Death Archon, but in this case, I like to use it to cover the back row. It's common for the opponent in battles like this to focus on attacking the rear, and since it has Armor Void, it can stop magic attacks with its defense.

Cerramos nuestra alineación con Warborn Shaman, no puedo dejar de expresar la importancia que ha adquirido esta carta con el arconte Marlai Singariel. Esta carta es bi elemental agua/muerte por lo que tiene una gran utilidad con el arconte de muerte, pero en este caso me gusta utilizarlo para cubrir la última posición ya que es frecuente que en batallas como esta el oponente se enfoque en atacar la retaguardia y como tiene armor void puede detener ataques mágicos con su defensa.

Once our lineup was set, we proceeded to send our team out, and we can see the enemy lineup, which is basically an Earth Splinter lineup combining melee, ranged, and melee attacks. The toughest challenge here will be dealing with the gladiator Quora Towershead and the card Escalation: Forlorn Geomant; these two cards do terrible damage, so it's important to have included Mystic Scaleweaver to slow down that lineup.

Una vez armada nuestra alineación, procedimos a enviar nuestro equipo y podemos ver la alineación enemiga que es básicamente una alineación con el splinter de tierra combinando ataques melé, rango y melé. In the first round, thanks to having the initiative, we eliminated the enemy decoy. With Flagulon Reine's attack, we weakened Mahkah Hemlig, another dangerous legendary card that urgently needs to be eliminated. In the second round, although we lost our tank, we also took down theirs, and now we have to face the formidable Quora, whom we managed to weaken.

En el primer round y gracias a que tenemos la iniciativa en el combate eliminamos el señuelo enemigo, con el ataque de Flagulon Reine ya debilitamos la carta Mahkah Hemlig otra peligrosa legendaria que urge eliminar rápidamente. en el segundo round aunque perdimos nuestro tanque, también dimos de baja al suyo y ahora toca enfrentarnos a la terrible Quora que ya logramos debilitar.

In the third round, we lost the second tank, Blue Wyrm Travesty, but Flagulon takes down his first prey: none other than Quora! Activating his bloodlust, during the battle we lost Mindless Thrall to Forlorn Geomant and our biggest obstacle is Quilliun Legionary who resists magic attacks, fortunately we ended up eliminating him in the 4th round thanks to Warborn Shaman and for the 5th round Flagulon with the blast eliminates Mahkah Hemlig, leaving Forlorn Geomant alone for Mystic Scaleweaver to give him the coup de grâce and seal the victory.

En el 3er round perdimos al 2do tanque Blue Wyrm Travesty pero Flagulon da de baja a su primera presa, nada más y nada menos que a Quora! Activando así su bloodlust, en el transcurso de la batalla perdimos a Mindless Thrall a manos de Forlorn Geomant y nuestro mayor obstáculo es Quilliun Legionary que resiste los ataques mágicos, afortunadamente lo terminamos eliminando en el 4to round gracias a Warborn Shaman y para el 5to round Flagulon con el blast elimina a Mahkah Hemlig, dejando a Forlorn Geomant solo para que Mystic Scaleweaver le de el golpe de gracia y sellar la victoria.

• Gladiator cards have the highest potential compared to the rest, which is why only one can be chosen on the battlefield. Whether common or legendary, they all have the ability to increase their stats as they eliminate targets. This is why it's so important to join a clan and start playing Brawls, as it's the only way to obtain these cards.
