For the love of money is the root of all evil
Many people take this line, and just go all the way to "money is evil".
And from that, to "we would be so much better off without money"
We need to work, we don't need money. If we kept working, and made everything free, we could have no needs, get rid of poverty, feed everyone…
Which is a communist utopian dream. It is not a bad dream, but it does not work with human nature as it is. It might come about through robotics, but, do you want to just have Ikea stuff?
Humans, right now, need motivation to do things. There are people who love to make art, or wood projects, and we could build an economy around this, and we would probably find a person for each thing, and we all come together in a synchronistic way, but we really aren't there yet. And trying to force that on people right now will just see a lot of people die/starve to death.
So, what can we do now? How do we get to a better future?
Everyone has seen the list
And, lots of people say that gold is perfect money. But it isn't. There are so many things wrong with gold. And if we expand our list to include things that are really essential for a good money, than gold really doesn't look good.
As you can see, this list completely overwrites the first list. Making most of the first list seem silly.
Gold can't do any of these.
And it can't even be a store of value. Rots-childs has so much gold, that they could sell to jewellers for $20 an ounce for decades. We may have mined all the gold we would ever need for jewellery.
Gold is bulky, easy to steal, impossible to transact with, except in person…
We will find (already have, but it is not in popular parlance) that tokens do not work. That game theory shows that they get accumulated into one hand. Something more than just spending them, has to be enacted. Previous civilizations had a thing where the richest people competed to pay for common infrastructure, to get the tokens back into circulation.
(If you do not recognize it, part of our economic policy is to keep most people poor and spending all of their money. Keep the people from saving/accumulating wealth. It is the only reason you go to shitty jobs trying to get dollars)
A better way would be something like computer-aided-barter. It would be easy for an AI system to work out huge trades, where everyone got what they wanted for similar-value things they had. You tell the website, i have this for trade, and the computer prints you a shipping label. Soon you will get what you wanted.
We could also make a blockchain where "spendable-value" was created when you sold an item you created. And you could spend that, like we do dollars today, except that when it gets back to the creator, it cancels out. Or basically, something like barter, with tokens. (and i started off "without tokens")
The blockchain will probably track the movements of goods. And with most people living in small communities, they are mostly self sufficient, so the numbers of goods is quite a bit easier to handle. The blockchain will be designed to balance flows of goods.
You can give them something besides money, but most people won't work very long without an equal exchange of energy.
We may, in the future, develop a SUPER-DUPER-HIGH-trust society. Where we believe our needs will be met, and they are.
But, today, we have a lot of people, that if they could, would not work at all.
We also have a lot of people that if they were given an opportunity to really help society, they would give of their time.
So, we can get some very intelligent and charismatic leaders to create small/local industries. But these things are usually short lived. As there is only so much hope you can sell. And if the leader stops, or backs off a little, they whole thing collapses.
What we need is more small/local manufacturing. Meaning, creating a good, that has value to others, locally. Creating value that can be exchanged for other people's goods.
This is not as easy as you think. Lots of people have tried making herbal balms, finding that there isn't much market for them. It is the same among so many home producible items. So, we need to go to a level where we can make every/each item that Wallymart sells. Its doable, however most people don't even no step one in manufacturing. To go from one person on a manufacturing line, to making the part yourself is a huge step. But one that is very doable with CAD/CAM
Bitcoin is real nice, but it is really only the first step.
Communism is a nice dream, but it really doesn't work with how people are wired.
Living in a cashless society, has a lot of steps that needs to be learned and executed before it will work.
All that said, getting rid of central banks and their inflation and interest payment taxes, will be a huge step in freeing us and making our lives much better.
Getting rid of govern-cement and their fraud and money wasting ways will make us even freer. Are we ready for that much freedom? (and for all of you feds reading this, it will not be an overthrow of govern-cement. It will be a collapse, done to themselves, by themselves, because fraud isn't supported in the Age of Aquarius. In other words, they will knock down their own house of cards)
When the small communities are mostly self sufficient, then trade, barter,… super-duper-bitcoin, or whatever is coming, will have a much easier time. It is so much easier when the goods being transferred are stuff that is difficult to make, and few in number, and high in value.
