We are now entering what historians will call the GREAT migration.

Where people around the world will migrate to find and form "Their Family".

Partially out of necessity, but in this early stage, it will be like minded people finding each other. They will come together because being a lone wolf in this coming ice-age will be very difficult. They will come together for comradery and emotional support. As well as sharing the burden of growing food.

Basically, this is the beginning of emptying the cities.
The cities being where the worst of capitalism's dark side gathers en force and make life miserable. (and meaningless) The cities will no longer be useful. Just as working from home because of the Covaids has shown many that going to an office building is no longer useful.

I cannot really describe the social structures that will make these "Families" work, but i can describe some of the technology that will allow it to happen.

Electricity

Currently when you talk about off grid, you are usually referring to solar power using Photo-voltaic panels.
And this works even better if you have a group of houses all tied together as you can share power and storage to even power demands out.

Also, if you have an engineer type in your family, you can make things much more efficient with the panels all centralized and on sun tracking racks. Its not hard, but most people would rather set and forget... especially if they are not mechanically inclined.

However, there are many new technologies coming that will allow anyone anywhere to make electricity.
Things like geo-thermal, magnetic motors, bio-breeders and non-photo-voltaic solar.

These systems require someone with expertise to monitor and repair them. However, a small community should have at least one person who is mechanically inclined.

So, your location of your new base. The HOME where your "family" will start their existence does not have to rely on how close to a power line they are.

Deliveries

One of the reasons that people used to go to the cities, and later moved to the cities is stores. Or, how to get the stuff they wanted. Not an easy thing when you lived way out there.

Then we developed railroads
Then mail order catelogs
Then stores
Then malls
Then on-line retailers

Today the stores are almost superfluous. And many times worse than just going on-line and ordering what you want. And after this becomes more and more than standard, it will not really matter where you live, shipment directly from the factory to where you are will be arranged.

Further this will allow for bulk ordering of many goods. A pallet of toilet paper as an example.
They had to ship that pallet to your grocery store's distribution center where it was broken up and sent to the supermarkets... so, you save a lot just by having it shipped to your "Family's" compound. No need for the middle man, and it isn't being shipped any further than it has to.

In the farther future, we will probably have some kind of single rail, self driving train/cars that just find their way to your home.

Thus, again you are not limited to how close you can live to a city. Most of what is in a city becomes unnecessary.

Internet

Internet anywhere and everywhere on the planet is coming.
So, you no longer have to restrict your location to this.
Your home can go "wireless"

Again, the tie to cities is being cut.

Cities are done!

Overall, we will see a mass migration out of cities.

And i haven't even talked about the horrors that will come to cities like riots from starvation, or death from power outages, crime, despair, homeless...

So, start looking for your "Family" and understand why you are being drawn together.
Also, do not limit yourself on where you can live. The shackles are being removed.
And it will be even easier in the future to start a community anywhere there is good soil.
