One of the things I’ve learned so far, especially from social media, is that truly everything on here is fake and people will only do things for their own interest. While there are people who do things for the betterment of others, those people are ridiculously few and it’s so hard to come across them.
On the other hand, it’s so easy to come across the fakers and the clout chasers. The internet is vastly populated by them, and the funny thing is that they’re the ones that are more popular. These are people who will say anything to get the clicks and the following, and they have no problem at all leading their followers into doom if it’s going to mean more money for them. Or at the very least, more fame.
These days, we have celebrities and influencers who make good money off their followers, and to keep that number going up, many of them will do anything and everything just to stay relevant. Presently, there has been an influx of sex tapes being “leaked”, however, people believe that none of these are leaked. They are all strategies designed for clout.
And why is this? Because after every leak, whoever the tape is about gets thousands of followers soon after. It worked for one person, then for another... and another… and since then, people have been dropping tapes like flies. This is sad because it’ll soon get to a time when nudity and sex tapes will no longer seem like a big deal. Having your sex tape out there will probably be just as bad as you wearing clothes with clashing colors. There’ll be nothing to it!
And then, as if this is not enough, we also have influencers promoting products and brands they themselves do not make use of. They promote body creams and organic products that have not been registered by relevant authorities, they drop statistics that are not proven and have no research to back it up. They may speak some jargon, and act up to sound believable, but that’s all there is to what they say; jargon. They don’t use the products!
What about the influencers who promote gaming sites that only end up stealing money from followers? The list is long, and people are going to great lengths just to get more money and more fame.
What makes it all so sick is that it’s the people who gave the influencers so much power that are suffering all this. You’re the one who watches their content, and it’s through your combined views that the social media companies pay them, yet they don’t care. You see them as a figure of authority, so when they tell you to buy a particular cream, you buy it. Only for it to bleach your skin. Or you could follow their say-so and try out a money-making scheme, only for you to be scammed.
Sadly though, you’ll think people will learn from this. They don’t. They still follow the influencers and when others start to criticize, they’re told to mind their business and stop being jealous.
Believe whatever you hear on social media at your own risk. The fake life going on in that space is cutthroat, it can drive people into depression and while a person can be doing so great, within them they could also be faring badly. You can never know from pictures and videos, all that can be doctored.
Do not try to fashion your life based on what you see online, you’ll be making a big mistake and the deeper you go, the harder it’ll be to turn back. There are ways to get famous, you can choose to be famous on your own terms because that way, however it turns out you’ll know you believed you were doing the right thing for you.
However, when you choose to follow some stranger you only know on social media, if it does go south, you’ll have no one to blame but yourself and it’ll be hard to find the silver lining after that. We just have to be careful, that’s all. These guys are called influencers for a reason, but it’s up to us to limit the amount of influence they have on our lives.
This is for our own good.
