Hello everyone, how are you doing on this glorious day? It is the start of another weekend, and are we all looking forward to kicking back and relaxing a little after the rigors of the week. It has not been easy, I know, but we definitely made it through. And anything that was not accomplished during the week will be tackled first thing on Monday morning.
So, dear friends, my post for today will be inspired by a topic that I believe affects us all. As usual. This is something that we see as a little harmless being that we do not get to see the effects immediately. But if we are not careful it could destroy our lives. And what is this? I am talking about Procrastination.
Procrastination can be said to be the action of intentionally delaying or postponing something even when you know that doing so would cause some major consequences. This is different from laziness, but they are very close. Sisters maybe because one could definitely lead to the other.
We show this bad habit while working when doing house chores or basically doing things that require us to stress our bodies a little. We would find ourselves giving ourselves reasons not to do them, coming up with lots and lots of reasons why we should just remain on the bed and not do that very important thing.
That is where the danger of procrastination lies. You see, you tell yourself that you have got enough time and you will get to the chore later. But when it gets to the eleventh hour, you will begin to rush it, and guess what, you will probably do a bad job of it.
Procrastination makes you believe that you have got enough time on your hands, and you will spend valuable time doing nothing. And even if you do spend it doing something, I can bet you it won’t be anything productive.
So, how do we tell when we are procrastinating a chore or when we are genuinely unable to do something?
It is simple. You will know by the reasons you are giving yourself.
Why do you want to postpone that chore? Is it so that you can get another chore done or so you can sit on the couch and watch TV? Or why can’t you go to the office? Is it because you have to take your grandma to the hospital or because you just do not feel like it?
These reasons that you give yourself are the ones that will tell you if what you are doing is postponing the chore or simply procrastinating it. When you find yourself in such a position, ask yourself, “If I do not do this chore now will my reason be considered valid? What will be the consequence of me not doing it? How will it affect me as a person?
The answers to these questions will clarify what you are doing and how to go about it.
So now, when you realize that you have an issue with procrastination, what do you do next? You try to fight it as hard as you can. You have to destroy it before it destroys you. And how do you do that?
The first place to defeat procrastination is in the mind. You have to be willing to see it for what it is and also be willing to let it go because it is really not doing you any favors in any way. So, once you accept the fact that you could be a procrastinator, the rest of the journey will be definitely easier.
But if you believe you do not procrastinate, then this post is not for you. But as for the rest, I wish you good luck in your journey to freedom, and I sincerely hope everything falls into place for you.
Thank you for reading, till we meet in the next post.
