Honestly, any endeavour that I would not be around to enjoy, I’d rather not engage in. It’s as simple as that. When you see the lengths that some people are willing to go just to get clicks and views, you’d be shocked. You then realize that the views and clicks are addictive; the more you get them, the more you want of them. It’s like a drug!
And sadly, some people may never be able to find out who they are beyond the clicks and views. Their life becomes a constant show, always in front of a camera. Because if you’re not recording, then nothing is happening in your life. And if no one is watching you, then you’re most likely boring. And so, people jump on trends, no matter how crazy they are.
There was a time when people were stacking crates and standing on them, which led to major accidents for some creators. Many of whom can no longer make content because they are now disabled. There was a guy who used to travel from country to country, disrespecting the culture of his hosts and doing all sorts of nasty things. Until he was arrested, and today, he’s still languishing in prison. People have broken into stores and stolen property just because they’re following trends. Some have followed trends that led to them losing their lives.
And that brings me back to my opening line: if I’m not gonna be around to enjoy this thing, why then am I doing it? The money that all those views and clicks would fetch would mean nothing if our account gets banned. And if you do get the money, it won’t help you at all if you lose your life in the process of jumping on a trend. What’s the point of working so hard to be seen when you only end up drumming up sufficient attention as a criminal?
It’s kind of like fighting over a cheating partner; it never ends well. The best that can happen is that you get your ass kicked, and the partner still dumps you anyway. Who wants to be with someone who was used to mop the floor? The worst that can happen is that you win. You kick ass so much that you end up killing them and becoming a criminal! Or you beat them up and send them to the hospital, you still end up becoming a criminal. Either way, you still don’t get to enjoy whatever it was you thought you were fighting for. It’s crazy.
I know that making it in this life calls for risks and requires you to be bold. But it shouldn’t involve you doing things that you’ll be embarrassed by later on. If there’s a risk that you won’t be around to enjoy it, then don’t bother. Just do something else. But if you’re doing it simply for the fun of it, or for passion, then good and fine.
That way, if you end up losing your life or freedom in the process, people will say you lost it doing something that you loved and enjoyed. There’s nothing as humiliating as the entire world getting to know that you died or went to prison simply because of clicks and views.
That’s gonna suck big time. So, in our rush to ‘blow’, let’s learn to be guided. Very important!
