So today, something happened that really shook me about the direction that humanity is headed, something that is really scary the more I think about it. Because while everyone claims to be good people or claims to be smart, in the face of stark human realities, many people still fall short. Their own biases end up tripping them because they just can’t live life the way that life is meant to be lived, they instead focus on what they want it to be like, regardless of how insensitive it may be.
So, not too long ago, Israel dropped some bombs on Lebanon, a move that was considered one of the most massive air strikes since the war began. And note that this happened during the peace deal, when everyone thought that they could have a bit of reprieve from the devastating effects of the war. And sadly, this air strike claimed nothing less than 180 lives, with close to 1000 people injured. And the number is said to increase as responders keep going through rubble.
However, this post is not about the bombing. But something that happened after it. Due to the scale of the attack and the number of victims, it was hot news. Also, Lebanon happens to be the home country of Mia Khalifa, a former pornstar. Her career in the adult industry was so brief, it was almost like a breeze, but she had a significant impact to the point that she gained global fame. She was only a pornstar for three months before she quit and moved on to other career paths, but the world had never forgiven her.
And that brings me back to the point of this post. You see, she made an emotional video, calling out the US and Israel for dropping bombs on her homeland and taking so many lives. According to the video, the bombs were dropped on a residential area, and the majority of the victims were civilians, not people who should have even been targets. It was heart-wrenching watching her let her heart out.
But then, to my shock, when I went to the comments of that post, the people were brutal. There was nothing there about the war, nothing about the bombing, nothing about Lebanon, Israel, or the US. It was all about her past as a pornstar. Some people were calling for her to make more adult videos, while others were saying she was only chasing clout because she had left the industry behind. Just so many hateful and disgusting things. And it was just painful to read.
And now, I have to wonder, what kind of world exactly do we live in? Yeah, the porn industry is one that a lot of people will frown at, but shouldn’t there be a line? As in, this is war, these are real victims and real people suffering from the effects, but for these guys in the comments, they don’t care about all that. They simply want to score cheap points by making fun of her and her past.
And sadly, this is something that’s not unique to Mia or pornstars. As long as your nudes are out there somewhere on the internet, anytime you do something, no matter how grand and awesome it is, people will try to bring you down by revisiting your past. These days, we’ve had former pornstars trying to turn their lives around, finding religion and trying to build a family, but will people let them? No! The attacks are endless and constant! The same for regular people with sex tapes online, when you feel like you’re making moves that could change your life for the better, suddenly the tape starts circulating again.
And sadly, due to the kind of society we live in, something as basic as sex can destroy lives and careers almost at the blink of an eye. It can also determine how people see you. Which is why it’s so painful that a woman would come online, crying about the bombs being dropped on her country, and the best that some people can think of is to ask her about her past.
Where exactly are we going as a society?
