After a week of camping without Wi-Fi, everyone agreed: perhaps nature was too relaxing. Brianna felt like she was going through withdrawal, just like someone who is addicted to something or someone... She felt nervous and anxiety overwhelmed her. Not knowing how the world was doing without her on social media was driving her crazy. She was also sure that her two thousand-plus followers would be missing her, without her live streams, without her posts that she used to publish almost daily. It was as if she had disappeared from the world, or so she felt.
But as the days went by, she became busy with other activities, and little by little she became detached from her beloved phone and all her electronic devices. She learned to cook homemade food and found herself talking to others more than she had done in person in a long time. It felt strange, but she remembered what it was like to hear genuine laughter around her, and that reconnected her with the humanity she had displaced with her electronic screens. She returned to her center.
When they returned to the city and Brianna went back to her small apartment and her beloved Wi-Fi, she found that she was in no hurry to connect, even though her phone had already done so a while ago, as soon as it got a signal when she arrived in the city. At first, she received many notifications from the first days of her absence, but after 15 days away, she had no recent ones... This made Brianna curious, but she decided to remain silent. As the days passed, only her parents and three friends contacted her, no one else...
Then she discovered that she wasn't really as popular as she thought and that only a few people really cared about her. From that day on, Brianna decided that from now on she would prefer real connections with people who truly loved her and not with a group that only lived in a digital world full of false illusions.
