~I stole this picture from a chicken head like me.
Hey Steemit buddies
@elfmyselfandi - my darling wife and I have made an effort to keep fruits and vegetables with atypical colour. Last year we great purple cauliflower, red black and yellow carrots, black bell peppers, purple potatoes, etc. We laughed as we walked down the isles of the greenhouse selecting seeds thinking of the foods we could make to really shock people. Like some purple shepherds pie for potluck at church. -People are often leery to try the food I've brought as it's a small town and the pallet seems to be quite different here. I actually knew a guy that didn't eat ketchup because he found it a tad spicy.
Our journey to find the proper chickens for our home started off with researching birds that were friendly (one's that wouldn't fight too much with the quail, or MiniElf) and then we went from there and checked out which ones would work well for where we live. Around this time Wife pointed out the fact that different birds pooped out different colours of eggs. All I cared about what that they were brown, as I have it in my head that the brown shell eggs taste better than the white ones. ~The last two sentences aren't scientifically proven, just theories from the madman in my head.
Based on wanting to have a multicultural eggshell breakfast every day, here's the chickens we've landed on:
The Black Austrlorp
Considered a docile temperament I suspect we'll get along great. They're a dual purpose bird with very light coloured brown and occasionally pinkish coloured eggs.
The Maran
These guys have a mild temperament and are disease resistant. They've got these crazy dark brown eggs, and considered a dual purpose bird.
The Ameraucana
I've got no proof on this: actually this is completely a lie: The Ameraucana got it's name because it's beard and neck is red, it's breasts are white, and it's eggs are blue.
Breading the first two with the Ameraucana give us green and olive eggs, which will provide us a multicoloured surprise each and every morning.
We're excited to get rolling with our chicken plans, slowly getting things crossed off the list. Will keep you posted Steemits!
Cheers Big Ears
