Yesterday, Theo (@hippie-witha-gun) and I went to my 20 week anatomy ultrasound to check on the progress of our baby's development. I was 20 weeks and 2 days. He measured at 19 weeks and 6 days, so right on track. The doctor said everything looked good and that he is developing perfectly so far. There are no signs of abnormalities in either the ultrasound or the blood-work we did a few weeks ago. Baby boy had a very strong heartbeat of 154 and would not stop moving around. He was also not shy about his manhood. lol There is no doubt - he is all boy.
I am finishing up antibiotics for a UTI, which was actually pretty scary. It started out with no symptoms, then all of a sudden, I began having very low abdominal spasms that felt similar to contractions. They were very intense. As they began to slow down, I started to feel chilled and could not stop shaking. My mom felt my head and said I was a little warm. I had a low grade fever of 99.4F. I called the on-call nurse, and she told me to take Tylenol to reduce the fever, drink lots of water, and rest and that if the fever or spasms got worse or I had bleeding to go to the ER. I did what she said and my symptoms eventually went away and I could sleep. I never had any bleeding. They wanted to see me and check for a UTI the next morning. It was positive, so they started me on antibiotics and something for the spasms if they came back. I've had a couple minor spasms since, but nothing that warranted taking the medication. I go back to see if the infection is gone at the end of the week, and the doctor agreed to do screens every 2 weeks since I have a history of them and don't get the usual symptoms.
I am just grateful that the staff at my clinic take my concerns seriously and are available to help me through things like this, even after hours. I feel as though I have received more thorough care from this clinic than I did with the one I went to for my last pregnancy. And I am beyond grateful and relieved that our baby boy is doing so well. I am beginning to feel like I can relax and enjoy it, finally, at least a little bit. I know we aren't out of the woods yet and anything can still happen, but every day is another day closer and the odds of something going wrong get smaller.
We still need to come up with a name. There are a couple we have kind of liked, but we haven't settled on anything yet and are keeping our options open. Suggestions are welcome.
I will be sharing the video of the ultrasound soon, so watch for that. You'll see just how active he really is! I'm amazed that I cannot feel him moving more than I do, but it shouldn't be too much longer until his somersaults are keeping me awake at night. I can't wait! lol For real, though, I would gladly deal with the discomfort in exchange for the reassurance of being able to feel him moving.
