Interest vs Purpose - Developing your Personal Greatness - How Does Steem Fit in? #discussion
I have started 7 or 8 books in my life with the intention of rocking the NY Times best selling list. I've committed to multiple different workout plans and diets...for like a week. I have started saving spare change to buy _______ until the next chipotle urge comes on....
I think many of us, especially the more excited personalities will start things that spark their interest, sometimes without really thinking through the time implications, the research, the effort, or the discipline that it will entail for that interest to materialize. I get excited and generally lack the foresight to think what type of effort and time will this require, as well as how does this fit into the greater purpose of my life? To commit to something requires us to say no to a different aspect of our lives. We do not just create new time in our life, we all have 24 hours and spend those however we want. We have probably all felt this on the steem platform when we first got on. It was really exciting and interesting and there was a component or false hope of
"I can make a ton of money!"
or
"People will think I am amazing"
Both of which quickly fall flat after your first few amazing posts that generate $.13 worth of steem. That initial interest is then generally falling apart and your asking your self now
"Why do I even try?"
When our interest's lack a purpose in our lives, they will fall flat.
Why aren't we all world class athletes? Maybe because there's a pretty small percentage of people that get those type of genes...but I think more because it takes a life of discipline in the teen years and into your 20's where you are putting in the 10-12 hour days 5-6 days a week. I mean we are all interested in winning the World Cup (RIP USA)...but we don't...because your interest does not hold the day! It has to be apart of a greater purpose in your life to integrate in your life when its hard.
I leave you with a few questions here -
- What is the purpose of your life? Are your interest's facilitating that purpose or detracting from that purpose. If not ask yourself what your purpose is! I wrote a post early with a few practicals on how to sort our your purpose here: https://steemit.com/purpose/@breakthrough/you-driving-your-life-or-being-driven
- Why are you using steem and how does that fit into your purpose?
- If you are a whale/witness - would love your thoughts on how the rest of the community could use steem to contribute to the greater steem community -
