When Private School Teachers Go on Strike Without Leaving the Classroom!
We need to have a very honest and entertaining conversation about what is actually going on inside many private school classrooms across Akwa Ibom State today.
Every new term, parents pull out hard-earned money to pay heavy school fees because of one major assumption: “Private school teachers cannot mess up.” The belief is that because the school owner is breathing down the teachers' necks with strict supervision and heavy monitoring, teachers will deliver their duties 100%—unlike public schools where people assume teachers do anyhow.
But take a look at what is actually happening behind closed doors! Instead of the heavily monitored teacher standing at the board to break down complex topics like atomic notation, the job has been pushed straight to a student.
Why? Because it’s an open secret. Schools collect huge fees from parents, but the teachers doing the actual ground work take home practically peanuts. When a teacher's salary is pocket-change, motivation vanishes. A quiet, unspoken strike begins: the teacher is physically sitting in class, but the passion has traveled to the village, leaving the students to handle board duties themselves.
Parents pay for strict supervision, teachers get paid peanuts, and the students end up doing the teaching!
Let’s talk about it. If you are a teacher, parent, or former student, let's hear your raw and funny takes in the comments below! 👇
