MVP Front-Runner Carson Wentz Tears ACL

Late in the third-quarter of the Philadelphia Eagles' win over the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback and MVP front-runner Carson Wentz dove into the endzone for a touchdown that was later negated by a holding call. Wetz's legs got sandwiched between two defenders, but stayed in the game to finish out the drive with a touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery.

Philadelphia would go on to with the hotly contested matchup with the Rams and clinch the NFC East, but the story line coming out of the game was whether Wentz would miss significant time. The worst fears for Eagles fans were realized when multiple reports came out of the Eagles organization that an MRI on Wentz's knee confirmed a tear.

Quarterback Nick Foles came in to finish out the game for Philadelphia and had a clutch throw to Nelson Agholor on third-down late in the fourth quarter to preserve the Eagles victory, but there is a reason Wentz had been the front-runner for MVP this year.

Wentz's ability to escape pressure and convert on third-down will be sorely missed as Nick Foles, while capable as a passer, is not in the same category as Carson Wentz. The Eagles lead the league in 3rd-and-6-or-more conversions and that is entirely due to Wentz's ability to make something out of nothing.

This is a huge blow for the Eagles who currently lead the NFC. We'll have to wait and see if Foles can carry this offense.

Worst of all, Wentz is on my fantasy team and has been my leading scorer all year. With the semi-finals coming up next week, this is by far the worst time for my leading scorer to go down!
