Apparently Hive had a birthday yesterday and I am half inclined to call "BS" because there is no way we have been around that long! It feels like just the other day we were splitting away from that other chain and forging ahead on our own to become bigger and better.
I guess time really does fly when you are having fun!
I see a lot of people did some special power ups for the Hive Birthday. I did not, but I am going to do a pretty decent power up when the first rolls around, so stay tuned for that.
It's Tuesday today, so that means I am going to be participating in the #ThreeTuneTuesday theme started by 
I'm going to take a look back at the post I wrote yesterday and use that as the inspiration for my three songs today.
Let's get started:
This one is going to be what they would call "on the nose". The theme for this week is mountains (sticking with the theme of my last post), and what better band to be the first song than "Mountain". Mountain is one of those interesting bands, that most people probably don't even know who they are.
Sure, they might know the song above "Mississippi Queen", but if you asked them who sings it they might tell you Three Dog Night or The Guess Who or something like that. While I am sure there are dedicated fans to the band, they seem like more of a one hit wonder to me. Which is a shame, because if the rest of their catalog is anything like "Mississippi Queen", they kind of freaking rock.
It is definitely on my to-do list to dig into Mountain on Spotify today and see what they have to offer.
Since we are being so "on the nose", it felt only right that I should include this famous song by Big Mountain. Baby I love you way is one of those songs that pretty much everyone knows and everyone sings along to. Of course, Peter Frampton is the original writer and singer of this song.
I got to see Frampton open for the Doobie Brothers close to 15 years ago and it was a really amazing show.
That being said, I think Big Mountain is one of the rare occasions where a cover of a song is actually better than the original. It's close on this one, but man Big Mountain just killed this song (and that's good). It's funny because 
I've actually never heard this acoustic version of the song, but from what I am seeing it is pretty awesome. I am sure 
Finally, I know I am probably going to catch some flack for this last one, but I had to include a little John Denver if we are talking about mountains. I know a lot of people think he is cheesy and corny. I'm actually reminded of a scene from one of my favorite movies "Super Troopers" when I think about John Denver (if you know, you know).
I'll be honest though, I have at least one of his albums on vinyl. Plus, if you ever get the chance to watch the special that PBS did on him many years ago, he was a really zen fellow. We should all be as lucky as him to be so at peace and have the time and means to commune with nature like he did.
Plus, he was pretty decent at writing a tune, even if the style isn't to your liking. There is something about throwing lyrics together that really garners respect from me. Whether it be a broadway musical, a rap song, country, metal, rock, or pop song.
Credit where it's due, John Denver could write a mean song about mountains.
You are probably thinking I missed way too many songs, and honestly you would be right. I was going to throw some Zepplin "Misty Mountain Hop" in here or maybe some Joe Walsh "Rocky Mountain Way".
Ultimately, I decided I am going to give you a bonus song, but it isn't going to be what you are expecting. If you read my post yesterday, you know it was a bit of an inspirational piece. Meant to encourage you to continue your Hive journey and never give up because the best is yet to come.
With that in mind, here is my bonus song for you:
That's right, I threw some Miley Cyrus out there. Miley before she got all weird. You have to admit, she has a crazy awesome gravely voice that is pretty special. Her antics aside, I feel she is a pretty talented musician and I actually enjoy listening to a lot of her music.
She has a new album that either just dropped or is going to drop soon and I am excited to check it out.
