It's probably safe to assume this wasn't a common weekend for the folks in Washington. Instead of living their lavish lifestyle over the past two days, they likely were scrambling to figure out what they could do to avoid some form of "black Monday" event.
I made some moves in the middle of the day on Friday, but nothing really that earth shaking. For the past several months I have been doing a $20 buy into USDC in my Coinbase account. It's not a ton of money, but I wanted to be holding something I could quickly move into BTC should the price of BTC fall below the $15K level.
Sure, I could have just used a debit card or something, but DCA'ing into the stable coin and having it readily available just made the most sense to me.
When I saw the news about SVB, having a pretty substantial position in USDC, I decided to quickly move that USDC over into BTC even though the price was closer to $19K and not the $12K to $15K range I was hoping for.
Turns out it was probably a good thing I did that. The next day I saw that USDC had moved down to the $.90 range. It's not that I expected USDC to go to zero or anything, but any big volatility on a stable would probably have anyone sweating just a little.
I saw many people talking about how USDC had "depegged". Do you agree with that? What constitutes a "depeg"? $.10 or more? $.15? I mean with Tether it was obvious, but we are so used to HBD kind of floating around that $1 mark that I don't honestly know if those mild swings equal a "depeg".
In any event. I noticed last night that USDC seems to be back around the $1 mark and in turn, BTC appears to be moving on up into the green.
What do you think? I'm open to any and all advice at this point.
The gain is only something like $50 last I checked, so I'm not even sure it is worth moving back into USDC at this point.
It's funny though how so much can happen in such a short amount of time when it comes to crypto. Sure, people might say this collapse has been coming for a long time. While that is probably true, I can't help but be impressed by how fluid crypto is.
Like I said in the title, it doesn't sleep. It just keeps moving and adapting and growing. It's pretty cool how it works.
On another note, I got my taxes done this weekend. It worked out pretty well for me. I paid in a bunch of extra money last year because I took some crypto gains that I had to claim in 2021. Since I didn't take any gains in 2022 (I mean who did?), I get all that money back that I paid in.
I don't like the fact that the government got to hold onto my money interest free for most of the year, but it was more about avoiding a penalty than it was about being sure I had paid enough in taxes.
Did you make any big crypto moves this weekend?
Let's talk about it in the comments!
