In my post yesterday I talked about "the art of taking profit" and why it's difficult for 99% of crypto bros who has once seen six to seven figures in crypto profit on screen but didn't convert it to physical cash or money in the bank. I got a very interesting comment from @travelwritemoney
which seems to have summarised everything I talked about.
He talked about "unintentionally taking profit not because he wanted to, but because he was liquidated in another investment, just at the right time because that was a period when the crypto market was at its top.
It's crazy because I think the 1% of people who took massive profit in 2017 and 2021 actually did it unintentionally. While 0.1% were lucky to just take it, 0.9% took it unintentionally, not knowing what they were doing or maybe AJ external driving force that requires you to "need money".
Needing money and having that money available for use is the fortunate thing that can ever happen to a person. Ironically when the crypto market is green and life-changing money is showing on your screen, you'll probably never see a reason to actually take profit.
A lot of crypto bro can agree that when they actually started seeing the need for money was after the pump dissipated and the market was already in a deep red zone.
So this is why I think the most extremely lucky phase of anyone's crypto journey would be, having a need for money in an actual green market, having the proper education and understanding to take it, knowing how to take it, plans for buying back (because obviously, buying back is one of the reasons for buying at the top) and putting that profit into good use as well.
While we might think "taking profit" is the end, crypto money is easily wasted even if took profit profit properly, the entire money can still down the drain.
Taking profit is not the end
A crypto influencer who made over $300,000 in Crypto profit from 2021 to 2025 made a tweet recently, he talked about being broke after traveling to the UK and spending some money for his education.
Now, I honestly don't know how broke he is at the moment, but the point is that he actually took that profit, and maybe didn't put that money into ventures that could generate more income for him.
He probably spent a lot on disposable ventures, and even though he actually took enough profit, the idea is that he close to the bottom or maybe he's no longer flamboyantly comfortable anymore, and this is a problem too.
A lot of people forget that reinvesting is a crucial part of taking profit as well, if not, you'll probably not have enough money to bring back onchain again
I've looked at the psychological aspect of taking profit and after my analysis I've realised that even if most people took profit unintentionally and they were just lucky enough, still, not having the right crypto education is going to limit them, they'll probably still end up poor after a few years, and not having enough stash to buy back cheap tokens that will enable them to continue printing every 2-4 years.
Crypto is an infinite money glitch, but somehow it became a death trap for over 99% of people who basically don't understand or have the right mindset or strategy.
So, for many, they probably just want to leave, never come back and just leans the space.
A lot of people left crypto because of how it messed up their mental health and expectations, but the truth is that the biggest flaw or the mechanism which crypto uses to mess people up is actually the same way it rewards them, but sadly everyone who has clocked it, is only doing so, recently and have previously been a victim of loss and regret.
Conclusion
The problem with just realising this is that crypto opportunity and money does not age like fine wine.
Everyone who is in this industry has made questionable calls and problematic decisions, and also lot a lot of money. This is the bane of crypto and while it's the only industry that the growth doesn't seen to follow the number of years.
Infact it's the only industry where the first few years were the "golden age" of life-changing money. But, perhaps it might be a different story decades to come. Overall, taking profit doesn't stop at just selling at the top, what you do with the money is also part of the process.
