If you are my age or older, you might be familiar with the old folk tune "Where have all the flowers gone?". If you are younger, or were raised outside the US, it might be more of a stretch for you.

This song has been floating through my head a lot the past week or so as I have been reflecting on the lack of comments lately on Hive.

In fact, engagement in general has significantly fallen off from what I have seen. Just about half of my posts in the past week have struggled to get more than five comments and that includes the self comment shilling for that #posh upvote.

I am not sure if lack of socialization from the recent pandemic-induced isolation has finally carried over to the digital space. Is it possible we simply don't know how to interact anymore? Trust me, I hold myself to the same standard as everyone else, and I know my commenting has been pretty pathetic lately.

I am encouraged by the fact that some of the comments that did show up on my posts were from newer accounts with less than 60 reputation. It is nice to see new users embracing the spirit of community.

What about those long time users though? Are they on vacation? Did they not make the move over to Hive? Is it just too much work?

Maybe the majority of users don't feel the quality of my content is worth of a comment lately. While I hope that isn't the case, I absolutely respect their right to comment or not if they truly feel that way.

How has your commenting been? Like I said, I know I have been dropping the ball and personally, I can't quite say why.

Believe me, I know engagement on Hive is a lot of work. For some, it is practically a full time job. I don't think people are asking for a book. Just some kind of general acknowledgement that you read or browsed their post and appreciate the effort they put into it.
