It's nothing but the reality that I'm where I am in life and still feel stucked even though I've been having quite an exciting weeks and want more that would feel like a breakthrough. I've always been poor all my life and this is personal.
I recall finishing highschool at 16 years of age and returned back to my parents house as I stayed with my sister to be closer to school.
Eze, you a big boy now, just look at how grown up you are now, said my uncle as he came visiting his friend my pop.
Sir, I wouldn't say the same as finishing highschool doesn't make one any bigger, I replied.
I could see he wasn't in for the uncle and nephew phase that we do have and he could clearly see that I have made the usual smirk that envelopes my face when found in such cases. The truth is that uncle's (seniors in general) make those that are younger feel less of themselves. Well, I'm a different breed.
It was clear after staying ideal at home for a week that I needed cash to sustain myself and clearly, searching for a job was next and truly the search began which ended well. In the case of how jobs are gotten here at such an age and fresh from highschool would be teaching. The funny part is that my senior siblings all taught in a school when they were done with highschool now I see myself in the same lane that the all followed. There's a good news as I passed the interview to teach in a primary school and absolutely that was the most under paid job I ever did and thinking of it today, no one even said anything about the amount I was paid ₦7,500 about 12 years ago. I only look back at the time and see that I was absolutely exploited and mostly,I let myself be cheated because I was timid. The job however let me see better into myself and know that I had this thing about me that lets kids feel safe when I'm teaching as I'm more of a correctional person than a blame person.
It was a funny time that I had teaching King David School as the exploitation was getting noticeable from earning ₦7500 ($10) monthly to teaching a class of 20+ kids to teaching 30+ students with no increment or miscellaneous. It went on to organizing lessons by teachers and getting cash from pupils for the lesson to the school taking over and getting a whooping 70% and leaving 30% to the teachers. It was a crazy time and the teachers who had been there years before me would admit that the school system is hard on them and the proprietor not being a nice person.
The onus of responsibility was glaring at me that I was the only one that had the power to change the outcome. I quit the job after working a term to save my sanity.
Found the way out that was the only way to choose from. No regrets for my actions.
Thanks for visiting my blog till next time.
