Here's an important lesson for all you beginners out there: if you are going to be using the command line please be a little bit extra careful when making changes to anything. Let's say, hypothetically, you erase the .git file in a particular folder and you decide to clone your github repository and link to that original folder. If you did something silly, like put all your class notes on a file inside that folder, you might end up losing that file and having to spend the rest of your day trying to remember all the really good lessons you learned about Flexbox and building responsive forms.
Hypothetically speaking, of course.
Today's lesson covered Flexbox and its use in building responsive pages and forms. I'm getting the hang of Flexbox but I still feel more comfortable with the structure of Grid. Our task for today was to build a form with various input fields, style it with CSS and make it responsive to different device displays. At the beginning of the day I swore that this would be deceptively hard and I was right. Building a form is not too difficult, and styling it isn't so hard either. But getting a page to do what you want it to do in a changing environment takes a lot of trial and error. I did figure out how to use media queries too, which we didn't cover in class but I'm sure I'll be using a lot in the real world.
I feel like I am stumbling into the correct answer each time, especially since I cannot yet explain exactly what I did or why. My instructor says that's learning. My head certainly feels like its getting a workout.
One thing I'm just starting to get is how to think like a programmer. Its getting a bit easier to look at a big problem and break it down into smaller problems which are easier to solve. Instead of being intimidated by having to build out a complicated project it is more about making small adjustments until the desired result is achieved.
On a side note I did manage to get out and see Jurassic World. Sometimes a movie can be so bad it is good. Please don't expect Oscar-winning performances from anyone. In some cases the dinosaurs are the most believable characters. But its fun and goofy in some parts and I had a good time. Even if it does mean I'm writing this blog at 11pm.
