This snake - like animal resting on my hand, is the legless lizard Anguis fragilis ... a very common inhabitant of the garden.

It has some light wounds, made by a cat ... one of my cats ...
(Enlargeable)
... but if nothing else goes wrong, he will definitely survive.
I found the lizard in the bathroom, he was surrounded by cats, immobile, pretending to be dead ... I gave the cats a piece of rope to play and brought the reptile in a hidden place in the garden.
Once I saw this species in the storage room, cats brought him of course ... I was sure that is dead, I left him there for four days ... and then on the fifth day when I brought the corpse on the sun to let it rest in the garden ... it was a corpse no more, the lizard opened the eyes and started moving, slowly exploring the surroundings and soon was gone under the stone.

This other lizard ... again on my hand ... is not legless ... but, as you can see on the following photograph ...
(Enlargeable)
... this one has lost its tail. This is the very common wall lizard. This species gets more often in trouble with the cats because is more active on the open. While the Anguis fragilis spends most of its life under the rocks and in various holes and cavities ... wall lizards are often running around in search for food.
I found this one in bathroom. You can see the tail on the carpet and the rest of the lizard hiding under the carpet.
(Enlargeable)
They usually survive the encounter with cats ... if I notice them in time ...
(Enlargeable)
... and bring them out.
