Hey Hive land,
For the last two years I’ve been attending a men’s group — a bunch of blokes who meet every two weeks to talk about what’s been going on in their lives.
Across those two years, I’ve noticed a theme with almost every new guy who turns up.
The theme is simple: “I just want to be heard.”
I’m not sure if it’s the same around the world (let me know), but here in New Zealand a lot of boys grow up being told to harden up and just deal with whatever’s going on.
When I first started going to the men’s group, I realised something pretty rough — nobody in my life ever really asked how I was.
People would ask how my wife was, how the kids were… even my own brother and mother. But very rarely did anyone ask how I was doing.
And that sticks with you.
I honestly believe it’s important for men to be heard — or at the very least, to be asked how they’re actually doing.
So here’s what I want to put out there on PeakD:
Guys:
Do you want to be heard, or are you just dealing with everything on your own?
Ladies:
Do you ask the men in your life how they really are, or do you only ask about their families?
