I remember someone saying that: " As always, there must be flowers to color my world." Someone very well known here, I wonder who'll guess first who it is .... and why she's not here right now!
I love flowers, but of course, that wasn't always the case. As a child, I didn't have much time to study flowers or to see more than what was in my grandmother's yard. I was far too busy playing.
I never thought about it until now. I don't know the exact moment when flowers began to be important in my life. Nor could it be otherwise with me, who can't remember what I did yesterday or what day it is today...
I think back now and vaguely remember that I started looking for flowers for girls in high school.
Inspired by my classmates' interest in flowers and other beautiful things, I started buying flowers, not many, because I had a very limited budget. I had to give up a book or a bagel or a sandwich that day.
In fact, even when I was younger I brought flowers to my mother, but more as part of a habit, a household custom.
Over time, my interest in flowers grew. In the house where I lived, there were always flowers, but not in pots. Cut flowers, flowers in the vase. At some point in my youth, I heard about ikebana, the art of arranging flowers. I found a book and learned from it how the Japanese do it. And now I still remember a few rules. Until then I didn't think that the flowers should be placed somehow in the vase, not just placed. I liked that...
After I had my own home with a small yard and after I matured a bit, my passion for flowers grew, as did my understanding and knowledge of their care.
I grew flowers in the yard and filled the yard with plants, shrubs, and flowers all mixed together with no rules. Just out of a desire to have it all.
I began to grow old. The more years of life I gather the more my passion for flowers grows. It's nothing special, I've noticed that all my friends of the same age suffer the same.
The conclusion I have come to is that old age comes with a new passion, gardening!
There are many reasons why we love flowers. I could probably make a list of many of them. But I never thought to say that flowers color our world.
Fortunately, Denise did! Thank you!
