When they came with their supposed modernity, didn't we have our ways?
Victims of deception we were
Assimilating all the odds that killed us
Yet we uttered nothing.
A time came when we were resurrected
Our slumbers we waved a goodbye
Embracing that naivety which they presumed
Yet it was the very thing that held us in bond.
Slowly and hastily had we began to refute the odds they brought to our even
We wailed and yearned until they fled
Freedom was all we regained.
Today, have we not become the slaves of the same freedom?
Have we not trampled on our brotherhood?
Have we not refused to share the same dinning table?
Wretched in freedom speaks AFRICA
For we have only become slaves again unto the freedom we bought.
Cry Africa, Cry in bitter tears.
