বদরুল বিশ্বাস মানুষটা অমায়িক
স্বল্প মাইনের সরকারি করণিক।
সাদামাটা স্বভাবের অতি সজ্জন
টানাপোড়েনেই তার যাপিত জীবন।
বদরুল বেচারার অভাবের সংসার
কাব্যের সুধারস ভালো লাগে তবু তার।
গৃহে ছিল যদিও নিত্য বারণ
অবসরে লেখে তবু দু'চার চরণ।
একদিন ডেকে তারে কহিল বধূ
আনমনে একেলা কী ভাবো শুধু?
ছাইপাঁশ লিখিলেই জুটিবে অন্ন?
চাল-ডাল-নুন-তেল এনে করো ধন্য।
প্রায়শই বদরুল শোনে গালমন্দ
বউ ভেবে মেলে না তো দু'চরণ ছন্দ।
কোন স্মৃতিচারণে রয়েছো বিভোর?
কার ভাবনায় কাটে কাব্যপ্রহর?
ক'দিন পরে এল বিয়েবার্ষিকী
বদরুল ডেকে কহে, এসো চাঁদমুখী।
অভিমান কোরো না, শোন বউ সবিতা
তোমায় নিয়ে আজ লিখেছি এ কবিতা।
সহাস্যে এল বধূ গৃহদ্বার খুলি
রাগ-অভিমান আজ গিয়েছে ভুলি।
সাগ্রহে শুনিল কবিতার বাণী
পুলকে নাচে তার হিয়াখানি।

English Version:
Badrul Biswas is an amiable man, A government clerk with a meager salary plan.A very gentle soul with a simple life to lead, In constant struggles, his days proceed.
Poor Badrul's household is full of needy signs, Yet he thoroughly enjoys the sweetness of poetic lines.Though writing was strictly forbidden at his home, In his leisure, a few verses he would still compose.
One day, his wife called out and said to him, What do you keep thinking alone, lost in a whim?Will writing this absolute trash bring us food?Go bring rice, lentils, salt, and oil for our good!"
Badrul often has to hear her scold and chide, His wife thinks the verses don't match, however he tried.In whose memories are you so deeply engrossed? Thinking of whom is your poetic time spent the most?"
A few days later came their wedding anniversary, Badrul called out, "Come here, my moon-faced lady! Do not hold a grudge, listen my wife Sabita, Today I have written this poem just for ya."
With a beautiful smile, the wife opened the door wide, All her anger and resentment were now cast aside.Eagerly she listened to the words of the poem so sweet, With pure delight, her heart skipped a beat.
