In this post, we will examine a few teams I have had good success with when there is a standard ruleset and several teams are open to play. Unless your opponent plays the same team every time, I find this kind of match up quite difficult. This is where you have to play your best lineup while also trying to counter a few different plays from your opponent. There is a fire team and water team that seems to work well for me.
Fire Team
Tank: Tusk the Wide
Secondary: Fineas Rage/Radiated brute
Damage dealers: Uraeus, Tenyi Striker, Sandworm
Tusk the wide is a great tank against really any attack damage. His 13 hit point pool makes for resiliency against ranged and melee as well as the void limits magic damage. With tusk delaying attacks up front, the damage comes all from my backline sneak monsters. In low mana matchups, I am doing six damage a turn with uraeus and tenyi striker. In high mana, the damage is 12 damage a turn picking off any backline my opponent brings. This matchup is a killer against thaddius, sloan, as well as obsidian. A mirror match with tarsa can be challenging with shield monsters at time and the worst matchup for this strategy is kelya with all the shields the water team can put up. The reach monster just adds to damage up front and acts as a secondary tank for the sneak monsters to continue their onslaught.
Water Team
Tank: Legionnaire Alvar
Secondary: Squid
Damage Dealers: Deeplurker, Feasting seaweed, swimhunter
Support: Ooze, Venari Wavesmith
The Legionnaire is a really under-rated card and one that I love to use in this type of ruleset/lack there of. He blocks magic attacks with his void armor as well as all melee and ranged damage with the shield. This leaves 14 hit points to go through. The damage is done by my opportunity monsters and best used in low to mid mana matchups. The deeplurker is great card with three melee damage and high speed. The seaweed can be a risky play with the low speed of two however that is where the ooze comes in slowing my opponent. If my opponent is doing a magic play, I will do the swimhunter in the last position to do more frontline damage. If I am expecting melee or ranged due to the teams available to pick, I will put the wavesmith in to add the shields up.
I hope you enjoyed this overview of a few good teams in the standard ruleset. It does not come as common as in bronze however is difficult to deal with at any league I believe. Please upvote or comment on any other teams you have good success with in this type of ruleset.
