I made this strawberry cake a while back and shared the photo on my Instagram @artycake2020. There was a time when I used to bake cakes to sell — and it felt really good to know that my cakes and sweets were making other people's happy moments even sweeter.

I'm reminded of a memory that always makes me feel good about remembering it.
One afternoon, I was baking a cake for a customer — a simple vanilla cake with strawberry frosting. Everything was going perfectly until the last moment, when I realized I had run out of fresh strawberries for the topping. I panicked for a second, then remembered a small jar of homemade strawberry jam I had made a few days earlier. I warmed it slightly and drizzled it over the cake instead. It looked even more beautiful than I had planned — glossy, deep red, almost like a painting.
The next day, the customer sent me a message: "My daughter said it was the most beautiful cake she had ever seen. She didn't want to cut it!" I laughed and thought to myself — sometimes the best things come from a small mistake, a little improvisation, and a lot of heart.
That's what baking taught me: it's not always about following the recipe perfectly. Sometimes it's about trusting your hands, your instincts, and the simple joy of creating something sweet for someone else.
