Life gets so crazy and hectic that most of the time we forget about what’s right in front of us. Work, school, health, bills...all of these things creep into the limited time that we have here and interfere on a daily basis. We don’t think about it often. Usually it hits hard when someone passes on or something tragic happens. The loss makes us reflect on all the “what could have beens” and we wish we would have taken more time for the simple things. I think that’s just part of being a normal human being.

Nothing tragic happened yesterday. It was a normal day at my shop and once my business partner arrived, I left to go snag us lunch. It was a usual Roy Rogers day. Killer grub if you haven’t had the pleasure but I’ll cover the tastiness of this place in another piece. As I was pulling out, I noticed 7 bikes waiting outside the building.

As I drove slowly past the windows, I saw smiles from what appeared to be a large family. There was a man around my father’s age talking and laughing with what I’m guessing were his grandkids. It also appeared to be the man’s son or daughter and/or their spouse. Three generations enjoying each other’s company. Strolling on their cruisers on a beautiful spring day by the bay and grabbing a bite before continuing on.

Maybe I misread everything. Perhaps this was a bike club. Or different groups of people that just coincidentally ended up riding to Roy’s at the same time. It doesn’t matter though as it got me thinking. Pondering about my family. Not only my wife and kids but my parents and siblings. My cousins and nieces and nephews.

Before I creepily turned my car around to snap this photo which absolutely caused a bit of alarm from a newly parked car most likely thinking I was about to become a bike thief, it brought back a wave of memories and emotions. How my family used to do things together when I was younger. How quality family time is something that seems like a rarity as of late. How I hadn’t even really thought about it much until this moment.

I personally need to be better with forcing that issue and creating long lasting memories for the kids. They have a good life but more often then not, we are all off doing our own things and having our own adventures. That’s all needed as well and is super important in growing and evolving but I think finding a balance is just as important. I want the kids to look back on their childhood the way I look back on mine. With fond memories.

That’s one of my hopes with entering the cryptosphere. I’m really hoping that sone of the sacrifices and choices I’m making in the now, pay dividends down the road. Allowing me to have a bit more financial freedom that will allow the time to go on bike rides with the kids more often versus being away at a convention. Time will tell but I sure hope that some of the hard work and decisions I’ve been making will come into play I’m a more positive way.

We only get one shot at this and I don’t want to waste it. I want those long lasting memories and good times not only for me but for those who are important in my life.

Think I’ll make a nice family dinner tonight. Gotta start somewhere.
