Love later found

I was sneezing in my room while my younger sister, Joy, was getting dressed for an exam she had for a promotion at her workplace. I asked a rhetorical question, "Who is calling from an unknown place while I'm sneezing repeatedly?" Ebube replied, "It must be your suitor who will be your life partner, sound asleep for you."

Nkechi laughed loudly and said, "Ebube, yes! When the suitor wakes up, she will meet her real suitor, and then the marriage rites will commence before December." I stared at my two siblings, shook my head, and pointed my finger at Ebube while saying, "Ebube, you always imagine things from insignificant instances. And I know you should be at your workplace now." Then I continued, "Joy, you have a promotional exam that will take you to a higher position in your company. Why aren't you focusing on the tasks of the day?"

Joy responded, "Sister Bridget, I prayed this morning that your suitor will see our father this December. And for your information, Ebube told me that his boss's friend likes you since the day you visited Ebube in his office." Joy grabbed her small handbag and happily walked out of the room after our brief conversation. Later, I said to Ebube, "So, I have become a topic of discussion in your office every day?" Ebube responded, "No, sister Bridget, he collected your number from me."

While I was in the kitchen cutting spinach leaves, my phone played the text message ringtone. I opened the message from an unknown number, and it read, "I am Nick. I've been asking about you since the day you came to your brother's office." In my mind, I thought, "Men are not serious." Then I remembered my friend Michael, who hadn't even considered meeting my parents in the five years we've known each other. I felt a surge of anger and decided to call Michael and said, "Michael, we need to talk." He asked, "What's the matter?" I replied, "Until we meet."

Later that day, we met, and I said, "Michael, you know I am a woman, and I can't continue like this. I expected you to have met my parents by now." Michael responded, "Marriage is not something one should rush into." Michael always brushed off marriage discussions whenever I brought up the topic. He slightly squeezed his face and retreated inside, displaying mild disapproval of the idea of marriage in an almost inaudible way. I could sense his meaning, and from that moment, I accurately understood that Michael was not the right fit for me, despite having enough money for marriage and settling down.

While I was with Michael, I received a call but chose not to answer it. I decided to check the caller, and it was Nick. I called Nick immediately, and he sounded eager to see me. Nick said, "I really want to see you," and I replied, "Mr. Nick, I don't know you. What's the matter?" He said, "When I come, I will show you something." I told him to come to my shop and texted him the address. After about 1:30 minutes, I saw a handsome young man leaning on his Nissan Jeep, looking around. He dialed his number, and my phone rang. I signaled him to come over, and he majestically walked up to my shop, smiling.

He didn't mind the noise of the marketplace but faced my direction with a smile. When he reached my shop, he seemed fulfilled. I said, "You are welcome, sir," and walked him inside, offering him a seat. He sat down gently, gazing at me, and said, "I have finally made it to see you." I asked, "What information do you have for me?" He replied, "Since the day I saw you in your brother's office, I have longed to see you." After that day, he kept coming, and though we hadn't known each other for long, he always longed to see me. He was strikingly different from Michael, who never understood my feelings. In a short time, Nick could intelligently read my mind, understand my emotions, and he became fond of me. It was clear that he truly belonged to me. Michael became aware of the situation but didn't mind, as if he knew that we weren't meant for each other. He never asked me anything, and all my siblings were aware of Nick's affection for me. I noticed a sense of satisfaction whenever Nick called me while I was with my siblings, unlike when Michael called me, which didn't concern them as much. After nine months, Nick knew that I belonged to him. He went to my village, performed my marriage rites, and we happily settled down after our wedding.
