This will be a rambling of sorts. I'm not going to make it look pretty or code it any way shape or form so it looks pleasing to the eye. I'm simply going to write and post. Because that's what my mind needs right now. Weird how that works...
Do you see the resplendence? Exact same smile, nose... We are siblings.
My brother called me tonight. My brother calls me rarely. He does it (so I have been told) because my grandma yells at him to... (although I think he genuinely likes to talk to me - life just gets in the way) My brother is seven years older than me and by "legal" means, or whatever, is my half brother. We share the same mother, different dads, regardless we weren't raised that way. And my dad has since day one seen my brother as his own. When asked, how many kids do you have? He answers 2. Me and my brother. Anyway, we've always been close. Growing up, it was him and I, we were two peas in a pod. Sure we had the brother and sister moments. He'd trap me under a blanket (to this day I hate small places). He'd sit on my head and my mom would yell at him. He'd poke me, do the whole, "I'm not touching you", thing that brothers did, he'd push me or egg me on so I'd get yelled at instead of him. But none of that mattered - we were each other's allies.
I wrote about the time we lost the "family" house in one of my posts and that was a hard time for us. My brother was so mad at me. Well, maybe not just at me, but at my dad and I... But it seemed like it was just me. When my dad had taken me out to dinner (My brother was at work) to talk about our options (my mom was in the hospital) and I had decided we needed to pack up and get out, we brought boxes home. Now, this wasn't my way of telling him we were moving but it just kind of happened that way and my dad went with it. We walked in with boxes to pack with, my brother, just getting home, looked over and laughed "someone moving?" he asks. "yeah, us." my dad response. Great job Dad. He was pissed. And he showed it. Now, if you know my brother he doesn't show any emotions ever but that night, he did. He was mad I didn't tell him, mad mom was in the hospital, mad he wasn't included, mad that we were moving, all of this I understood. I was mad too. I reacted, cried, and ran to my room. I heard him and my dad. My dad explained to him it wasn't my fault, I thought he was mad at me, etc. He came to me, rubbed my back, and everything was all good. He helped by putting the money down on the new place and we all moved in together. I love my brother.
Years passed and he surprisingly married someone. when I say surprisingly that's because we knew nothing about her, one day he just called us up, told us about her and that he was going to marry her. Oh, okay brother. Years press on, I marry also, we both learn from those marriages but that comes down the line. One night my then husband and I were holding a Packer party (we are from Wisconsin afterall) and I get a call from my brother. I'm excited because as time pressed on our relationship distanced. We always picked up as if we didn't miss a beat, always have, but when he married, that was his life and nothing changed that. Anyway, he called me that night and informed me he had found out his wife wasn't faithful (much like what I went through years down the line, but that's a story I have told). So, I tell him, I'm on my way and he needs to pack up what he can, and we'll be there ASAP. That night we grabbed what we could and he moved in with me.
He lived with me and my then husband for a year. Oddly enough that was the happiest year of my marriage (says something doesn't it?) it was amazing to have my brother back again. I still think back to those times with a smile and wish I had those back. I know we all have to move on, but the need for my big brother will always be there. If you knew him, he just has a way about himself. He can make anyone laugh, like, REALLY laugh, by not even trying. He's just got that awesome personality.
I've missed him. He called me last week and, rarely, I was out with my best friend and grandma, so I couldn't answer. I informed him in a text of this and he said no problem just calling to say hi and he loved me. Best. Brother. Ever. I made note to call him tonight, he beat me to it. We literally talk about nothing and everything. He makes me laugh, tells me things I never knew and well.. He's my brother so I don't really care what comes out of his mouth as long as he's talking to me. He doesn't know how much his calls mean to me. And i should tell him. But they mean so much to me. My brothers not the greatest by any means... He should spend more time with my mom, help me out more as far as she goes, and be there for the family more but dammit, every time he talks to me, he sucks me back in. No one can stay mad at him. He's just... Him and that makes him so special. God mad him a certain way, and for that I'm grateful. Thank you for my brother... I'm happy I got him as my brother.
