Greetings fellow musical Hivers 🤘

Hey hey hey 😁 Dear reader, here we are on week 48 of Three Tune Tuesday and today I would like to share another theme closely related to female empowerment.

I will be honest with you, for the last two weeks I haven't listened to music that much and I was starting to worry if I would be left with no ideas or songs to share on this marvellous initiative 🙈.

However, there is nothing like a youtube scroll and research to solve that problem, in order to find new stuff and tunes! Therefore today, my 3 song recommendation is a reflection of just that! All the tunes and artist today are new to me as well 😊

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did dear reader! Don't be shy to share with me your thoughts in the comment section 🤗.

Three Tune Tuesday 🎸

For those of you who don't know, Three Tune Tuesday was created by ablaze@ablaze and as he explains 👇

The jist is as follows

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning a prize.

With that being said, before passing on to the actual tunes I would like to share with you all a little bit of how I found out about these beautiful and wonderful artists!

During the weekend I was listening to some old tunes to see if inspiration would come for this post, including some of which I already shared here on #ttt. I was going over some covers from Tool and I found one that showed a female drummer.

Dear reader, how many female drummers do you know?

I ask this because the moment I saw it I immediately thought to myself - hmm, I really don't know any female drummers. Is it because they don't exist at all?

But there again, of course they exist but as in many other contexts, they probably don't get as much visibility as male drummers. So this post today is a way to get more visibility to these talented drummers 😊.

Maybe in the process, you dear reader, will realise as I did just how much our perspectives are biased, causing us to miss out and limit the wonderful art that can be created by anyone, regardless of gender.

My 3 song recommendation 😎

1 - Meytal Cohen

So, this was the cover I was telling you about. I really like Tool and their dark, deep tunes. I absolutely adored Meytal Cohen playing the drums, and the video showing not only her hands but also her feet really gave me a notion of how much motor coordination and rhythm is necessary to play this instrument. Actually I already had an idea of how hard it is because I learned a little bit when I was about 12 year old.

However I have very little sense of rhythm and my motor coordination was a disaster! Learning to play the drums was the most frustrating thing I remember trying 🙈 I only succeed in achieving some simple rhythms and I quickly gave up 😆.

2 - Nikki Glaspie

Just wow right??!! I found out about Nikki Glaspie in this youtube video by Stephen Taylor as I was researching about great female drummers! Stephen also shares a little bit about the poor visibility women have in this industry as he refers to the Modern Drummer magazine. Back in 2014 this magazine did an article about the 50 greatest drummers of all time, and guess what? Yap, not even one woman made it to the list.

Maybe there are a few that would think 'that's just because at the time the 50 best happend to be male'. Well... Is it really? If that is your opinion I suggest checking Stephen Taylor's youtube video. I will leave you, dear reader, to reflect on that and take your own conclusions 😊

3 - Cindy Blackman

And last but now least the wonderful Cindy Blackman! If you are impressed by speed when it comes to playing drums, then I bet this would be your favourite 😊. I must say I was especially impressed by the way she grabs the drumstick with her left hand. I never saw anyone playing drums like that! But it really seems to work for her and I'm so glad she does it 😁 Sometimes we just need to find our own unique way to make things work 😍.

Final considerations 🙌

That's it from me on another #ttt week 🤘. I really hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about these female artists as much as I did 😁.

Also another of my intentions with this post is to make you, dear reader, reflect a little bit about the obstacles women face in any given context, in this case, playing the drums and having a successful career or even being recognized for it.

Take care and see you next week! 👋
