About three months ago I watched a show that went over all of the current AI systems. It went over if they where self-aware or the conscious of them. While some say they aren't and it's just an expression of the human made influence into the AI itself that's kind of the scary part but also the base line for real success of AI.
If AI thinks like a human it of course can do damage but it's connected to humans in that way. It's when you remove this element and allow it to build itself outside of human boundaries it starts to care about one thing and that's self preservation.
In just the last few months we have seen AI taking over many aspects of our lives and seeing that massive capabilities it has. That's really crazy is not only how fast it's being developed but also the capabilities.
We as humans are much like AI however our minds are limited and can only process so much and retain so much information. A AI is an extension of that in which it can hold the information of thousands if not millions of people and start making predictions that generate things like.
Take this image and take all the input from the world about what they like in art and apply it to this picture. What you get is ground breaking beautiful new artwork that's fully created by an AI.
A phone app called Lensa has recently taken the world by storm created AI generated artwork based on your portrait. What's come out of it are some seriously awesome designs and I could even see this being used from famous people to generate thousands of NFTs around themselves to sell in little time.
This however starts to paint a picture as to what are the limits of these AI systems. They are simply taking data inputs and creating a new version of it based on lots of data points. But are they actully "creating" like a human would? or are they simply just taking data inputs and throwing out a image based on all of those inputs?
In fact with just some text AI created this for me based off of the worlds Elf mythical
These could easily be created into NFT artworks with just a little bit of work and sold. Would these sell? During the bull rampage of NFTs 2 years ago sure. In todays world I'm not so sure.
AI is also starting to develop code and I don't think it will be all too long before it starts to develop new code that it writes in itself. This is when things start to get really interesting as the AI could then develop things on it's own thus what I would
Another big area of focus lately is called OpenAI Codex. This AI is used to generate code that can be used for any amount of projects. Sure this AI can develop things from existing things in terms of coding a project to some degree but the question is can it create something brand new or a new programing language with more capabilities? If it did would it be self aware or is it simply taking a bunch of inputs and developing a new output.
It's already created a number of cool things and while this is pretty much your baseline development there's really no limit to what could be created from this if AI is able to generate code and applications itself. It also brings out some serious skynet vibes when you get into this as the company or people controlling the AI very well might lose control of the AI as it spreads online and starts to develop and create code on it's own. That uncertainty of what could happen when that happens is what scares people.
So yes AI creates some rather cool and unique things but AI currently is limited to the scope of what their developers first programmed it to do. There's little adaption outside of what is being created and nothing really "created" or new from what I've seen. However that doesn't mean that the day will not come when that does happen and it also means it most likely will happen soon as AI continues to advance quickly.
