Hello adventurous friends, this afternoon I bring you a post full of beautiful photos and a unique landscape within the Sierra de Arrabida and today I will climb the "Pico el Louro" is one of the highest mountains in the southern part of the country and of which You need to walk more than 20km to be able to go around the mountain and reach the top! It is not the first time that I have come here but it is the first time that I have climbed this trail which is one of the most demanding that I have already done within this area! Normally it is a walk of almost 40 thousand steps and you could spend a whole day so it is quite demanding but the scenery is worth it!🌏🍍🌄
At the beginning it is to follow the road🙇♂️🚙/ Al comienzo es seguir la carretera🧭🌄
At the beginning our trail is simply to follow the road so the terrain is not complicated on the contrary very easy to navigate however be careful there are moments where you will have to walk off the road and you will go through some slippery and dangerous ledges, since I walk here in On the mountain I already saw many tourists lose their lives due to slipping and falling from the mountain! The climbing equipment is cross-functional to facilitate our adventure! the best height to do the trail? Summer, even though it is very hot, the ground is easy and you avoid falls! Also inside the forest the climate becomes cooler due to the humidity.🚩🌄🚵♂️
Ready for the adventure?🙇♂️🚙/ Preparados para la aventura?¿🧭🌄
The walk should last more than six hours depending on how many stops we make to admire the landscape, however it is something that you do not have to stop doing because the Atlantic has a beautiful view around the Sierra Pico de Louro which should have more 500 meters high and has a very demanding climb and worse is the descent, which is super steep! On the left we see only the mountain and how high it is and on the left you have the village Formosinho and several other lower mountains and some beaches.🚵♂️🌄🚩
some caves and crevices in the mountain🍍🚩
Due to the shape and geological constitution, it is normal that throughout our walk we see many caves in the mountain, some may be just a few meters long and others are immense and explorable. I do not have time to explore caves because otherwise it is impossible for me to achieve my goal of climbing. and go down the mountain so I must always keep a fast pace! This mountain range is normally the place of the boy scouts who usually come to do some location and orientation practices on the map!👀🧭🌏
Beginning of the climb🙇♂️🚙/ Comienzo de la escalada🧭🌄
Here we abandon the street and the easiest path and to do this you will probably travel about 4km and enter the forest where the environment and the terrain changes extremely! The ground is muddy and very slippery, it won't be the first or even the last time I fall here, hehe, you will have to climb a few meters and endure the 4 degree cold in some parts of the mountain due to the humidity! Of course the landscape also changes and you will see many beautiful plants, mosses and mushrooms!🚩🌄🚵♂️🌏
It is very likely that I have already gone 7km, there is still a long way to go and I have not yet started to climb the mountain and let's remember that I am against the clock because I don't want to be hit by darkness being up there, it is extremely dangerous! According to my calculations, I should be up at 4:00 p.m. and I have an hour and a little to go down since at 6:00 p.m. it will be completely dark!🧭🚙🌏
This part was quite demanding. Breathing in so much humidity becomes complicated and you have to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration. Stepping is also quite an odyssey because everything slips. Until now, I walked about 8-9km and everything ran well. I'm probably halfway through. I think the mountain is 300 meters!🌏🚙🧭
What a fantastic experience, I still had a long way to go but I reached the top of the mountain, a feat that seems easy but is complicated. I was very hungry and thirsty so I decided to eat and hydrate very quickly to avoid the premature darkness of winter!🧭🍍
I think this is the hardest and most extreme part of my adventure today! Going down here more than 500 meters on slippery dirt and stone is crazy, you just have to fall to hurt yourself and worse, being here with a broken leg, you can only be taken out with a helicopter! So I think about each step before taking it and I touch twice the place where I will place all my weight without hiking poles, it was impossible to get down here!🍍🌏🚩
28km on time🙇♂️🚙/ 28km a tiempo🧭🌄
and here my adventure ends I finished the 28km later than I thought I only got home at 10:00 p.m. haha it was crazy and let's just say that I still haven't broken my personal record of 40km one day I hope to achieve it I will prepare for next summer!🍍🌏
