A beautiful Monday to all the members of this great community @needleworkmonday and lovers of creativity using needle and thread, I hope you had a wonderful weekend and also looking forward to have a great week. Today, I will be sharing with you how I creatively combined 3 types of fabrics to make a stylish flare gown outfit for myself from left over fabric.
Last year, my husband got this fabric for an event and as I am his fashion designer, I usually make his outfit for him which after sewing, the remaining fabric will be used to make mine since I can manipulate and be creative even with even with a small piece of fabric I can make an outfit for myself, that was exactly what I did, I took the fabric which was 6 yards to make a top and trouser for him with a simple design at the front using a plain fabric to make it stylish, the outcome was very nice and admired by him, people around who knows I made it really appreciate my work as well.
After making this top and trouser for my husband, the remaining fabric was just two yards which I can only use to make a short gown but I decided to make something different this time as I have made a lot of short gown for myself from different fabrics we have had together, for this reason, the remaining fabric was kept in my bag since last year without having an idea of what to make.
Recently, my husband wore his outfit and asked when will it be the right time for me to make my own outfit an I told him soon, that same week I brought the fabric out from where I kept it and began to cut without knowing what to sew but I'm certain that I will make something beautiful.
First, I folded the two yards of fabric in four to cut out a 360° flare using my waist circumference measurements plus 2 for zipper allowance and the full length.
Unfortunately, I found out it was too short for me after cutting it out, at first I thought I could manage it but I knew my husband will never allow me to wear such, so I cut out a long piece from a plain fabric and sew it to the hem of the flare to make it longer to my desired length.
The flare was set aside and I went ahead to draft out a princess dart bustier with a sweetheart neckline as I tried to transfer it to the main fabric, I also found out the fabric was not enough, so I had to look for a matching color lace fabric to combine with the main fabric to make the upper bodice. It was then sewn together with a zipper allowance at back
The upper bodice was sewn to the flare to make a full gown, at this point,I was very happy that I could make a beautiful design from this little fabric.
This is where the challenge is, knowing the type of sleeves to make and the choice of fabric to use since I have used 3 types of fabric to make the bodice and the remaining ones are just pieces which cannot be enough to make a simple sleeve.
