Hello, people of the Internet, I'm very excited to participate in this contest because talking about movies is one of my favourite things to do, so I have the perfect excuse to talk about my favourite Christmas movie: A Christmas Carol.
Hola, gente de Internet, estoy muy emocionada de participar en este concurso ya que hablar de películas es una de las cosas que más me gusta hacer, así que tengo la excusa perfecta para hablar de mi película navideña preferida: Los Fantasmas de Scrooge.
Scrooge is a materialistic, classist, bitter and selfish old man who is visited by his partner (who has just died) to warn him of the visit of 3 spirits, who are in charge of making him reflect on his life before it is too late. Thus begins Scrooge's adventure and journey through the past, present and future of his life.
Scrooge es un anciano materialista, clasista, amargado y egoísta que es visitado por su socio (el cual acaba de fallecer) para advertirlo de la visita de 3 espíritus, que son los encargados de hacerlo reflexionar sobre su vida antes de que sea tarde. Es así como empieza la aventura y el viaje de Scrooge por el pasado, presente y futuro de su vida.
The story of the film is based on the book "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dicken. It is supposed to be a film for all audiences but it is likely that more than one child will be traumatized due to the realism of certain scenes and the crudeness with which it portrays certain topics such as death for example, but personally I think it is a work of art.
La historia de la película está basado en el libro "Un Cuento de Navidad" de Charles Dicken. Se supone que es una película para todo publico pero es probable que más de un niño se traumatice, dado al realismo de ciertas escenas y la crudeza con la que se retrata cierto tipo de temas como la muerte, por ejemplo, sin embargo en lo personal me parece una obra de arte.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis and under the technology of expression and motion capture, this film is one of the best of its kind (taking into account its time, of course) I think that one of the most remarkable things is its cinematography because with the bet they made they increased the emphasis of certain messages in the scenes according to the dialogues, what I mean, in a simpler way, is that many narrative resources were very visual increasing the added value to the cinematography and also to the story.
Dirigida por Robert Zemeckis y bajo la tecnología de captura de expresión y movimiento, esta película es una de las mejores de su tipo (teniendo en cuenta su época, por supuesto) creo que una de las cosas más destacables es su fotografía, ya que con la apuesta que hicieron incrementaron el énfasis de ciertos mensajes en las escenas según los dialogos, lo que quiero decir, de manera más simple, es que muchos recursos narrativos fueron muy visuales, incrementando el valor agregado a la fotografía y asimismo a la historia.
There are many interesting shots, many of them are immersive, such as those accompanying Scrooge on journeys, flying, where the shot is assertive in terms of physics. I also love the whole introduction of the film where we see not only the perfect and accurate setting and staging of the Victorian era, but also of Scrooge's selfish and evil personality simply by giving facts like when the carol choir is silent only because he stares at them insistently, or that the children run away from him. These are simple elements but they help to tell or emphasise aspects of the story without any dialogue in between.
Hay muchos planos interesantes, muchos de ellos son inmersivos, como aquellos que acompañan a Scrooge en los viajes, volando, donde el plano es asertivo en cuanto a la física. También amo toda la introducción de la película donde vemos no solo la ambientación y puesta en escena perfecta y acertada de la época victoriana, sino también de la personalidad egoísta y malvada de Scrooge, simplemente dando datos como cuando el coro de villancicos se queda callado solo porque este los mira insistentemente, o que los niños se alejan de él corriendo. Son elementos simples pero que ayudan a contar o enfatizar aspectos de la historia sin ningún dialogo de por medio.
On the other hand, I like the character design a lot, especially of course the three Christmas spirits and the ghost of Scrooge's partner, the latter has a more horror movie appearance (which I loved because it had a good handling of the horror and did the job) and the three spirits are amazing. I think the one from Christmas past is very cute and "angelic" the one from Christmas present reminds me of Santa Claus, as well as having a very nice light presence (his appearance is one of my favourite scenes) and the one from Christmas future is very scary as he resembles the grim reaper.
Por otro lado, el diseño de los personajes me gusta mucho, sobre todo, por supuesto los tres espíritus de las navidades y el fantasma del socio de Scrooge, este último tiene una aparición más propia de una película de terror (la cual me encantó porque tuvo buen manejo del terror y cumplió el cometido) y los tres espíritus son asombrosos. Creo que el de las navidades pasadas es muy tierno y "angelical" el de las navidades presentes me recuerda a papá Noel, además de tener una presencia lumínica muy linda (es de mis escenas preferidas su aparición) y el de las navidades futuras asusta muchísimo, ya que se asemeja a la parca.
The personal approach I give to this last entity is that it had to be terrifying, it had to terrorise Scrooge as it was the last one responsible for making him change and be a good person, the previous ghosts tried to do it by being nice and being a bit softer and empathetic, but it was this last one that had to achieve the task, so it had to be more cruel and inflexible.
El enfoque personal que le doy a esta última entidad es que debía ser aterradora, debía aterrorizar a Scrooge, ya que era la última responsable en hacer que este cambiara y fuese una persona de bien, los anteriores fantasmas lo intentaron por las buenas y siendo un poco más suaves y empáticos, pero era esta última la que tenía que lograr el cometido, así que debía ser más cruel
Finally I must say that the artistic and poetic intentionality is reflected in the dialogues and the audiovisual representation, as for example the scene where the ghost of Christmas present shows Scrooge two beings that represent ignorance and need, which come out from under his cloak and when the bells ring 12, the ghost fades and these beings begin to grow while reciting dialogues that Scrooge himself has said, which represented the two creatures (that is, words full of ignorance and need).
Por último debo decir que la intencionalidad artística y poética se ve reflejada en los dialogos y la representación audiovisual, como por ejemplo la escena donde el fantasma de la navidad presente le muestra a Scrooge dos seres que representan a la ignorancia y la necesidad, los cuales salen de debajo de su manto y cuando las campanas marcan las 12, el fantasma se va desvaneciendo y estos seres empiezan a crecer mientras recitan dialogos que ha dicho el mismo scrooge, los cuales representaban a las dos criaturas (es decir, palabras llenas de ignorancia y necesidad)
The truth is that this will always be one of my favourite Christmas films, not only because of the story, which I find very interesting, but also because of the artistic intention behind it and the use of innovative elements.
La verdad es que esta será de mis películas navideñas preferidas de siempre, no solo por la historia que me parece muy interesante sino por la intención artística que hubo detrás y la utilización de elementos innovadores.
