Spending time with our parents is never a waste of time. To me, no matter how meaningless an activity spent with our parents is, our time with them will always be priceless. More often than not, we don't realise how limited our time with our parents is. Who knows, they could be alive and kicking today and kick the bucket tomorrow.
Our daily commitments as adults means that we don't have much time to spare. What more about travelling all the way back to our hometowns to visit our parents? There is a very apt Chinese saying "树欲静而风不止,子欲养而亲不在", where its literal meaning is "the tree intends to stay still but the wind blows non-stop, a child wants to take care of his parents but his parents are not around already." What it actually means is that we should care for our parents before they pass on so that we won't regret that we hadn't done so when they were alive. When we regret not spending more time caring for them, the remorse is futile.
We often take our parents for granted as we don't always place them at the top of our priorities. Our career, our own family, friends always take precedent instead of them. However, we meant the world to them when we were just toddlers. Parents are always willing to sacrifice their own interest for the sake of their children. The least we could do is to show appreciation for them who had given us what we have today.
Rarely does a video leave an impact on me. The following YouTube video is one of them.
If our parents could love us so much then, why shouldn't we, as their children, treat them as well from now on until their twilight years?
